I think maybe down the road it would be good to add messages from yum as
well for some errors. For example if yum.conf gets created as
yum.conf.rpmnew it would be a good idea to tell the user about it.
The rest of the scripting errors maybe they could do without but some errors
are essential to know about.

Just a query: Do any subscribers to the list use a threaded mail viewer
? Since subscribing, I realized it's an option that I normally don't use
for email. But for this back and forthing, it is really helpful: it is
easy to ignore a thread I'm not interested in, yet keep all the previous
messages in each thread together, so when further Q/A/statements are
posted, they are automatically grouped with the original thread. It also
means a quoted part needs only be seriously minimal. When I was
accessing the list through the monthly archive on redhat or aims group,
it was terrible trying to match together bits of the same thread from a
long web page of post links. Google groups used to showing threading,
but their new version hides that by default : ( Silly when it really
ideal for this sort of information, so that you don't need to keep
reading the same crud over and over.
If there is anyone willing to let us know what method you use to read
the list, please reply to this thread ? And also whether your method
supports threading ? Is there any web mail servers that can provide
threaded message lists ? Can ms lookout do it (haven't used it for 4
years) ?

Re: HAL / NetworkManager / nm-applet
by Brian C. Huffman
Sorry for the lack of threading - I was in digest mode, so I had to
recreate your email.
Also sorry for the top-posting. Here's the output of my selinux:
[bhuffman@xyz ~]$ rpm -qa |grep selinux-policy-targeted
selinux-policy-targeted-2.1.9-2
If it makes a difference, this is a full yum upgrade from FC4.
Everything else seems to be working..
Thanks,
Brian

What version of se-linux are you running (rpm -q
selinux-policy-targeted)? There was a bug where if HAL could not
execute its scripts because of an se-linux rule HAL would crash and
NetworkManager would not start up.

HAL / NetworkManager / nm-applet
by Brian C. Huffman
All,
I'm having a problem where both hald and NetworkManager die when my
session starts (and therefore nm-applet starts). If I kill the
remaining hal processes (hald-addon-acpi and hald-addon-storage) and
then restart hald and NetworkManager
/etc/init.d/haldaemon start
/etc/init.d/NetworkManager start
Then everything works fine and my (still running) nm-applet comes up in
the notification panel. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Brian

I have a similar complaint, but in 2 parts:
First, my laptop triple-boots [Windows XP][FC4][FC5t1]
*) I get the above behaviour using the 2.6.15-1.29_FC5hypervisor
kernel only. For me this is only a partition on /sda1 which seems
to have 100Mb of Dell system fat16 area. But it appeared, writeable,
and I may have clobbered it by mistake, not sure.
Note that I share the /boot partition for FC4 and FC5, and have
had to disable selinux on FC5 to make this work. Is there a
way around that?
*) However, I have long had a problem that XP complains the NTFS
area is dirty, and does a disk check on it instead of booting. This
seems to follow an 'ordinary' FC5T1 boot. FC5T1 /etc/fstab does not
mention the ntfs partition. FC4 does mount it R/O, but it seems to be
the FC5T1 boot which causes problems.
