yum/pup missing dependencies on a fresh install.
by John courie
Hello I am having a dependency problem with yum on a clean install of fc5test2
immediately after installing fc5 I went to run yum update
and I got the error message which follows.
So I tried using pup and sane-backends and udev dont even show up as a
packages which need updating, and when I unchecked rythmbox in pup, it
still processed it and failed on the rythmbox dependency.
I tried disabling and enabling all the repos (even livna !! ;-) ) but
that didnt change anyting.
Has anyone seen this? There is nothing in the release notes or a grep
of the janruary list archives.
thanks.

No. I said, (and you quoted me) "I _do_ want to see an 'install
everything' option".
> (certainly a temptation), you decide to remove the choice from
> others......
No, I don't want it removed, and I never said I did.
>
> I am indeed perplexed.
What I said was: "on a production machine ... I would never 'install
everything'".
That doesn't mean the option wouldn't or shouldn't still be there,
just that under _that_ circumstance, I wouldn't click it.
Please read all my original sentences... in context. I give two scenarios.
If the 'everything' option is removed, I can only do scenario b) easily...
If the 'everything' option is left in (my preference), then I can do
scenarios a) _and_ b) easily.
I want the later.

Thumbnail preview of jpg images broken (feature or bug)
by David Bentley
I just transferd some images over from a windows
machine that I have taken
with my digital camera to give F-Spot a try and
noticed that they no-longer
get thumbnailed in a Nautilus view of the folder that
they have been copied
to.
Is this a feature or a bug.
What you get is what looks like a slide with an image
of a tree and the sun on it.
This is also what is shown for the images if the
folder is viewed with gThumb.
Any ideas what the problem might be.

Ezonics Cam
by Mike Chambers
Do these work with Fedora, mainly FC5, or supported in some way, shape
or form?
And if so, how the heck ya get them to work? Mount them like a cdrom or
something?

FC5t2 -- xorg-x11 + Radeon 7200 + HUGE corruption of tty after closing X session.
by Joshua Andrews
Something bad is happening and I'm not sure what it is. I use run level
3 and startx from a tty. After exiting an X session the tty is useless
with bits of what appear to be the boot buffer randomly splattered all
over the console, there is no real time input echo and it sux!
I can't shut down the system either, without using the reset button.
Anyway, my hardware probably isn't up to snuff for this high-power
release... Oh well!

iptables firewall default to drop instead of reject?
by Jurgen Kramer
I noticed that with FC5t2 the iptables firewall still has the -j REJECT
--reject-with icmp-host-prohibited rule instead of a more secure -j
DROP.
What is the reason behind this?
Maybe there should be an 'advanced' option in the system-config-
securitylevel which let you choose to do a drop instead of sending icmp
host prohibited messages. I think this is a sensible option for servers
connected to the Net.
You can of course alter the file /etc/sysconfig/iptables by hand but
this can possibly be overwritten by system updates.

RFC: python-shout-python rpm package
by Mihamina Rakotomandimby
Hi,
I adapted Sebastien Corot's SuSe SRPM to Fedora Core 4:
ftp://infogerance.locataire-serveur.info/fedora/SRPMS/python-shout-python-0.2-2.src.rpm
May be some has comments on it.
I CC'd the initial packager.
If you just want the binaries, you can use my repository. Just add this
repo:
