error messages with today's rawhide updates ...(04 SEP. 03)
by Elton Woo
I get the following errors installing some updates from rawhide:
"^
Content list file does not exist, is not readable, or is not well-formed XML:
/var/lib/scrollkeeper/it/scrollkeeper_cl.xml
/var/lib/scrollkeeper/it/scrollkeeper_cl.xml:1: error: Document is empty
^
/var/lib/scrollkeeper/it/scrollkeeper_cl.xml:1: error: Start tag expected, '<'
not found"
(repeated several times) AND more importantly this one when upgrading
the kernel ( I should have used rpm -ivh, instead of -Uvh with the
kernel-athlon package, but <*shrug*> it's too late:
"5:kernel ########################################### [ 56%]
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in
/lib/modules/2.4.22-20.1.2024.2.36.nptl/kernel/net/bluetooth/cmtp/cmtp.o
depmod: detach_capi_driver_Rf5f7d0de
depmod: attach_capi_driver_R61677334"
About to logout, reboot and see what happens...

Please add exim
by Neal D. Becker
Please add exim. I have prepared an rpm package and can send the spec if
anyone is interested. It is easy to add since we have "alternatives" so that
sendmail, postfix, and exim can all co-exist.

Disk config tool?
by Neal D. Becker
I'm running beta1 with kde desktop. I didn't find any gui disk config tool
(basically, something to edit fstab for you). Is there such a beast?
Shouldn't it be easy to find?

gnome desktop is *still* unusable after rawhide update.
by Elton Woo
How do I capture error dialogs in Nautilus?
I've recently updated from rawhide, and when I login, I get error
messages to the effect that gnome settings cannot be saved,
because ****** .... etc.
I have to logout of Gnome via CTRL-ALT-DEL.
KDE is working fine, and it's from *this* desktop that I'm sending
this message.

False alarm: Abuse of RHN Service?
by nosp
Didn't see anything like this in the archives, so I was wondering if
anyone had gotten this error from up2date (severn, up2date-3.9.19-2):
---
up2date_client.up2dateErrors.AbuseError:
Error Message:
Abuse of Service detected for server XXXXX (nnnnnnnnnn)
Error Class Code: 49
Error Class Info:
You are getting this error because RHN has detected an abuse of
service from this system and account. This error is triggered when
your system makes too many connections to Red Hat Network. This
error can not be triggered under a normal use of the Red Hat
Network
service as configured by default on Red Hat Linux.
The Red Hat Network services for this system will remain disabled
until you will reduce the RHN network traffic from your system to
acceptable limits.
Please log into RHN and visit
https://rhn.redhat.com/help/contact.pxt
to contact technical support if you think you have received this
message in error.
---
I am updating one PC (my only RHN-registered machine) from the severn
updates channel and have had up2date crash a few times but don't think
I've generated THAT much activity. I AM trying to download a lot of
updated packages (updates + src rpms total probably about 500),
however. My account doesn't actually seem disabled in any way (system
not marked as bad in RHN, can still dl packages, log in to RHN website,
etc.). The FAQ warnings (https://rhn.redhat.com/help/faq/policy.pxt)
appear not to have come to pass (great).
I'll take this up with rhn-users if no one's seen it. Just thought I'd
ask here first since the beta community are likely to be the heaviest
users (pkgs/system-wise). Anyone seen this?
Thanks,
Martin

VMware working with RH beta?
by Hoyt
Has anyone had luck installing the beta on VMware (I have 4.0.2 build-5592).
It keeps crashing for me during the install right after detecting the disk
drives; noprobe does not help. Other OS's (even SkyOS) will run OK.
Advice?
Thanks,
Hoyt

Show package download size in up2date?
by Steven Haigh
After pulling down a few updates last night, I had a thought that it
would be handy if up2date told the user how big each package that it's
going to download (maybe during an 'up2date -l'?) and the progess bars
when the actual download is going state something like 'package name
#### 120k/sec 1:02 left 2.8/10Mb'
At present, from using the up2date cmd line, there's no way to tell how
big the packages are - unless I'm overlooking a simple option (possible!)..

It is possible to configure up2date to keep track of rawhide and install
evrything new from rawhide ?
I never used up2date, I understand that up2datre keeps only security updated package

Thank you
