as7 plugin - type change - probably needs plugin purge/re-deploy
by Heiko W.Rupp
Hi,
I renamed an element and one of its children, which made plugin update in my
server hang until Tx timeout. If you see this, please delete+purge the plugin on the
Admin->Settings->Agent plugins page and re-deploy the newer version afterwards.

[i18n] Translations for RHQ 4.4
by Heiko W.Rupp
Translators,
I've just updated the messages bundles from RHQ into the rhq translations
project on github.
If you have translations on disk that should / could go into RHQ 4.4
please submit them before next monday (Apr 16th).
Thanks
Heiko

gwt.draftCompile and coregui build failures
by John Mazzitelli
I think I found the issue that has been plaguing most of us when
sometimes building the GWT coregui module.
If you recall, it seems as though whenever we pull from git any changes
in coregui that a) add messages to Messages.properties or b) add to the
RHQ server-side GWT RPC API, the coregui build fails and we have to do a
mvn clean in coregui to get it to build again.
I think this is a side-effect of using gwt.draftCompile=true (which you
probably have in your ~/.m2/settings.xml file). I think
gwt.draftCompile=true skips the code generation step for the i18n
message interface and the GWT Async interfaces.
If you get errors while doing a coregui build, try one of these two
things - you have to either:
a) mvn clean before rebuilding coregui
or
b) use -Dgwt.draftCompile=false as a mvn command line option.
Note that turning off draftCompile actually DOUBLES my compilation time
on my box (coregui goes from ~2 minutes build time to ~4 minutes).

property-options, custom value ?
by Heiko W.Rupp
Hi,
I have
<c:property-options allowCustomValue="true">
<c:option value="HTTP/1.1"/>
<c:option value="AJP"/>
</c:property-options>
am I supposed to see a text box next to the radio buttons for the custom value?
Or how does this work?

Agent security token again
by Heiko W.Rupp
Just got this one again.
snert:/im/rhq/modules/enterprise/agent/target/rhq-agent hrupp$ bin/rhq-agent.shListening for transport dt_socket at address: 8788
RHQ 4.4.0-SNAPSHOT [74326f0] (null)
The server has rejected the agent registration request. Cause: [org.rhq.core.clientapi.server.core.AgentRegistrationException:An agent is trying to register with an existing agent name [snert] without providing a valid security token. If you are attempting to re-register this agent, please consult an administrator to reconfigure this agent with its proper security token.]
Will retry the agent registration request soon...
Neither this, nor rhq-agent.sh --help tells me the magic -Dx=y combination to pass the token in - I think this is not user friendly.

Re: Replace old graphs in RHQ with GWT ones. GSOC 2012
by Denis Krusko
Message 1.
Jay and Heiko, thank you for you answers.
In your responses, I found the necessary requirements to the charts,
as well as much additional information.
Because the investigations were carried out some time ago,
I spent a brief review of JavaScript chart libraries that integrate with GWT.
http://code.google.com/p/gwt-chronoscope/
Code license: GNU Lesser GPL
has many features, but not available a company
site:http://timepedia.org/chronoscope/
http://www.arcadiacharts.com/
Features
· Apply color and style
· Interactivity
· Axis types
· CSV data import
http://highcharts.com
yet one interesting project,
but free for Non-commercial (I do not know the suitability of such a
restriction).
Regard to previously considered libraries, I found a gwt wrapper for
http://dygraphs.com/
http://code.google.com/p/dygraphs-gwt/.
How I understand, this library meets all the above requirements.
Thanks,
Denis Krusko

as7 res config test
by Charles Crouch
Comments?
(4:46:29 PM) ips-afk: ccrouch1: that's a new test i added to test res configs on all resources that support that facet
(4:46:54 PM) ips-afk: if you're referring to the "Component does not exist for resource:" errors, i don't quite understand those yet
(4:47:01 PM) ccrouch: ips-afk: exactly
(4:47:29 PM) ips-afk: i initially thought it was because the PC had not yet had a chance to activate all res components
(4:47:47 PM) ips-afk: so i added a big delay upon completion of discovery.
(4:47:54 PM) ips-afk: but that didn't do the trick
(4:48:38 PM) ips-afk: so i'm thinking maybe the parent res components of those res components failed to start or returned DOWN, and so the PC never even tried to start them
(4:49:19 PM) ips-afk: i'm hoping i can reproduce it outside of the itests
(4:49:30 PM) ips-afk: then i can step through w/ a debugger
(4:50:17 PM) ips-afk: or maybe it will be immediately obvious to heiko why those res components aren't started :)

Code formatting
by Heiko W.Rupp
While I am not a big fan of our code formatting conventions of
public some long signature that
wraps in the second line {
here thestatements begin without a space
Can we please adhere to our freaking conventions? Perhaps change them slightly
to make the above case look like:
public some long signature that
wraps in the second line
{
here thestatements begin and you can even see it
BTW, the JBoss-guidelines that are referred in ours use
public void startService() throws Exception
{
So I've adjusted our document
I think for XML we never had the convention of using an indent of 2 spaces.
It is fine with me, but then lets all do it.
Also in Java we seem to randomly use 3 and 4 spaces; the JBoss guidelines
use 3 spaces, so should we
Current conventions are here:
