Please check:
1) if it happens on other applications
2) if you have *.cache-5 on /var/cache/fontconfig
3) if the above cache is readable with fc-cat say
If you fail on 1), that means google-chrome issue. on 2), it seems you failed
on upgrading. on 3), the cache is broken. if you have ever tried to use
fontconfig from git, you have to clean them up and regenerate with fc-cache.
