--- Comment #84 from Stas Sergeev <stsp(a)list.ru> ---
Thanks Mike, much clearer now!
Your explanations deserve a wiki page actually.
how can I get “en” from the xkb keyboard name “us” which is in the
rusle.txt table source? I would need a mapping between the xkb
How about displaying
"us" then?
No mapping needed, will not be confused with EN, and,
by being lowercase, will mean a direct mode of some IM.
And on engines that do not enforce a specific layout
you can keep displaying "things".
It may not be useful for rusle, but it is useful even for some
non-Chinese tables.
Should I make a very special exception *only* for rusle? That does
not seem to make much sense.
How about configuring this in a table itself?
NEEDS_DIRECT_MODE=yes
or some such.
Even if there are the good uses of that feature, you
need to evaluate how much engines needs it and how much
do not. If there is a reasonable amount of both, then
the switch in the table would make more sense than disabling
it by hands in the menu.
Actually I was wondering about that for quite some time
already: “Why does Stas want to use ibus? Why doesn’t he just
use xkb? xkb would be better for him ...” ☺.
Very simple: it was not there in the
configurator.
In either form, nor in xkb, neither in ibus engine.
Now I wonder why it wasn't there in an xkb form...
Do you have it in?
