The Culmus Hebrew Fonts project (http://culmus.sourceforge.net/) has recently
released version 0.121 of the fonts. Fedora is still carrying the 1 year old
previous version, 0.120.
Despite the apparently-tiny third-significant-digit version number change,
there are some interesting improvements in this version. The improvement that
interests me personally is that the niqqud (the Hebrew vowel signs), which were
broken in the culmus-frank-ruehl-clm-fonts.noarch font, were fixed.

Jonathan, you can disable ibus with im-chooser.
Jens, regarding your question what caused ibus to be enabled: Could it be that
some earlier Fedora release had ibus enabled by default? I usually update and
don't reinstall and also always use the same $HOME.

Originally reported by Michael Biebl to the Debian Bug Tracking System, see
<http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=616620>:
Hi,
since upgrading ttf-liberation from 1.05.2.20091019-4 to
1.06.0.20100721-1, the letter 'u' and 'U' has become much "thiner" in
comparison to other letters. See the attached screenshot I took from the
SPON website, especially the word "um".
I downgraded to the squeeze version again and the problem is gone, so
this is a regression of the new upstream release.
Cheers,
Michael
> Is only the sans variant affected or also the serif one?
Hard to say, as the serif letter is completely different. I only recognized
this
with the sans version.
I have to add, that I use LCD, RGB, and full hinting

This is something that has been affecting me (in emacs); I'd originally filed
it as an emacs bug. Since there have been requests for .imsettings.log files,
I'll attach mine, I'd be curious if there's any wisdom that can be gained from
it.
FWIW, I have ibus-1.4.0-17.fc17.x86_64
As far as I know, I don't actually need it running, but I don't see how it is
controlled? How can it make it not run?
