OK. Yes it was dbomatic code I'm working on and I couldn't find any other uses

That code was ported from a previous project, and we pretty much left it as-is.
At this point, only dbomatic uses it, so if the above allows dbomatic to work
and access the ActiveRecord models, I'm all for it. I'll also note that we
can probably fold this code directly into dbomatic itself and just nuke
dutils from orbit.
