There are several different approaches you can take to
diagnosing this.
* Check /var/log/* to see if there are any relevant
messages
* Figure out when, exactly, this stopped working, and
whether reverting
to a previous version of some package fixes the problem
* Verifying that the configuration file for eth0 is valid
and compatible
with the latest version of the network service (which is
where I would
look for differences between eth0 and eth1, if they are at
all similar)
Part of dmesg follows:
[olivares@localhost ~]$ uname -a
Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.29-0.157.rc6.git2.fc11.i586 #1 SMP Wed Feb 25 17:50:42 EST
2009 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux
eth0: no link during initialization.
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready
eth0: link up.
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth0: link becomes ready

Am I wrong in remembering that NetworkManager is in the
long run
replacing the network service?
No your not wrong. But still I need the network
service because this machine was trying to act as a dhcp server which never worked anyway
:(
-B.
On the other machine(s), NetworkManager is taking care of the duties and it is working
fine :)

Antonio
