If I try to print from Firefox (i.e. File > Print), or any other application that uses the new Gnome printer dialog (gedit, gimp), the "Print" button is disabled. If I select "Print to file", the "Print" button is enabled; switching back to an actual printer queue, it grays out again.
Other apps that don't use the new dialog print just fine; CUPS is not showing any errors.
Apps using (apparently) an older Gnome printing dialog, e.g. Applications > Accessories > Dictionary are able to print.
Is there something I can try to figure out why the print button isn't activated?

Your print server most likely has a more restrictive firewall than in previous versions. Enable "Network Printer (IPP)" using System->Administration->Firewall.

For any future printing problems you can try to use the trouble-shooter: System->Administration->Printing, then select Help->Troubleshoot from the menu bar.

Bingo. The firewall tool looks great as well; hadn't seen that yet.
Thanks Tim!
Is this a change? I don't remember opening :631 for F8, but I've probably just forgot.

Hey, wait a second. If the port was firewalled (and it was), how was it that other applications could print? How did it only affect the gnome-print dialog?
Hmm.

Other applications could print but the job would be continually retrying until the firewall was opened on the server.
The difference with the GTK+ print dialog is that it fetches the PPD for the queue in order to provide correct default values in the option widgets. If this PPD exists but cannot be fetched, the 'Print' button is made insensitive.

I had this same exact problem early on in rawhide testing, I'm sure it is in the mailing list somewhere.
I think I had to enable "Remote Administation" in the Printing Server Settings "System->Adminstration->Printing"
After that printing worked correctly from Firefox.

No, you shouldn't need to do that.
