Works fine in F18, Mint14, Ubuntu 12.10, so it's not the files.

I am not an expert but is it possible that something with the files is the problem?
Can you open the files in f18 for example (or in some other program which is not editing
program in rawhide)?
No idea about the cause of the problem.
