Adding a password to root fixes the emergency boot option. Reported as bug.

Boot with '3' kernel arg, that should get you to a console where you
can log in and poke around a bit to try and figure out what's going on
- look at the logs from the failed boot, and so on.
I can login to the normal user at a terminal prompt. I can login
graphically as root.
