Or, just select the previous kernel at boot.
Sounds the initrd image failure I had a couple weeks ago. There are
updates for that, IIRC...
regardless of which kernel i now boot, i'm screwed. i get the above
error message for the *original* kernel, while booting under the new
kernel gives me gdm/prefdm errors so i don't have an X session
anymore.
at this point, i think it's time to just wait for the next release
candidate and see if things improve.
