However, earlier in this thread Jonathan Corbet explained that he actually used _the same partition_ for testing both filesystems; in this case, the fact that there were more partitions on the disk is a completely irrelevant implementation detail which could in fact just as well have been left out of the article. So it seems that the benchmark was OK but the explanation in the article might have been a bit confusing.
