StorageFiltering Test Day Recap
by He Rui
Hi all,
Storage Filtering test day was held two weeks ago, but unfortunately
there's not much attendance in this event. One thing I've learned is
that such event which requires special or high-end devices is not
suitable to be held as a test day, since most of us don't have such
devices and therefore are not able to attend it. However, many thanks
to James, lxu, especially liangsuilong, who tested it during holidays,
and Tommy He, who raised this event in other communities. Below is a
summary report, you can also refer to the test day page[1] for details.
586326 ASSIGNED - No devices shown under 'Firmware RAID' of Specialized Storage UI when install to BIOS RAID
572853 ON_QA - TypeError: execWithRedirect() got an unexpected keyword argument 'searchPath'
572882 MODIFIED - The number of Devices(and MB) selected displayed incorrectly in Specialized Storage Devices
582820 NEW - Exception: device-mapper: create ioctl failed: Périphérique ou ressource occupé
Thanks a lot,
Hurry

F13 repo question: updates disabled, but updates-testing enabled ??
by Joachim Backes
Is this correct: in F13, the fedora-updates repo is disabled by default,
but fedora-updates-testing is enabled by default.
I'm asking this because: Very often when getting answers to some errors
I reported to bugzilla I get the advice to enable the updates-testing
repo and then run "yum update " for some package x.y.z...
I think, running "yum update" without "--enablerepo=updates-testing"
should do exactly the same (that repo is *enabled by default* !!).
I want to understand the strategy behind :-)

Certificate status monitor and PKI enrollment client
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:

elfutils-0.147-1.fc11 (FEDORA-2010-7151)
A collection of utilities and DSOs to handle compiled objects
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
This update fixes several bugs in elfutils libraries and tools, including one
that could cause tools to crash when processing core files and another that
could cause tools to crash when examining DWARF CFI. The handling of CFI now
copes as best as possible with invalid CFI cases that GCC could emit in ix86
code before a recent GCC fix. The libdwfl support for kernel module objects now
copes with certain spurious relocation records left by ld -r before a recent
binutils fix. This update also adds the new function dwfl_core_file_report to
the libdwfl (-ldw) library, to let applications using this library handle core
files like utilities' --core command-line option does. This update also adds
some translations for elfutils messages, supplied by the Fedora Translation
Project.

from an external script * Use template via jinja2 to generate the spec files
(Based on an idea of Allen S. Rout) * Create the R2rpm script which directly
builds the rpm * Add a man page for R2rpm * Add the -p option which enable
to build a spec from a package name * Parse the PACKAGES file from the
repositories to find the information for the packages * Make the print of the
TODO optional in the API * Give the opportunity to use mock to build the RPMs
(rpmbuild being the default) * Enable to specify the mock command in the conf
file * Enable to change the argument given to rpmbuild via the conf file
(to build srpm instead of rpm for example) - Bugs correction * Fix the
addition of the R- prefix to the dependencies * Rewrite the reading of the
DESCRIPTION file from R * Do not enforce the spec and the source directory,
reads the rpmmacros instead Thanks to José Matos for this function *
Fix the summary if it ends with a dot "." * Capitalize the summary by default
* Change UTF-8 to utf-8 to make emacs happy * Fix the spec file for the
dependencies of this new release * Fix some bugs while trying to generate the
RPM/SPEC from a tarball

Certificate status monitor and PKI enrollment client
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
This update corrects a bug in parsing the length of time for which a self-signed
certificate should be marked valid, correctly records the requested CA when an
already-issued certificate is added the list of certificates the daemon
monitors, corrects man pages which weren't preprocessed correctly, adds
translations, and brings the service init script into better alignment with
packaging guidelines.

elfutils-0.147-1.fc12 (FEDORA-2010-7193)
Project.

python-mako-0.3.2-1.fc12 (FEDORA-2010-8049)
Mako template library for Python
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
0.3.2 - Calling a def from the top, via template.get_def(...).render() now
checks the argument signature the same way as it did in 0.2.5, so that TypeError
is not raised. reopen of [ticket:116] 0.3.1 - Fixed incorrect dir name in
setup.py [ticket:129] 0.3 - Python 2.3 support is dropped. [ticket:123] -
Python 3 support is added ! See README.py3k for installation and testing notes.
[ticket:119] - Unit tests now run with nose. [ticket:127] - Source code
escaping has been simplified. In particular, module source files are now
generated with the Python "magic encoding comment", and source code is passed
through mostly unescaped, except for that code which is regenerated from parsed
Python source. This fixes usage of unicode in <%namespace:defname> tags.
[ticket:99] - RichTraceback(), html_error_template().render(),
text_error_template().render() now accept "error" and "traceback" as optional
arguments, and these are now actually used. [ticket:122] - The exception
output generated when format_exceptions=True will now be as a Python unicode if
it occurred during render_unicode(), or an encoded string if during render(). -
A percent sign can be emitted as the first non-whitespace character on a line by
escaping it as in "%%". [ticket:112] - Template accepts empty control
structure, i.e. % if: %endif, etc. [ticket:94] - The <%page args> tag can now
be used in a base inheriting template - the full set of render() arguments are
passed down through the inherits chain. Undeclared arguments go into **pageargs
as usual. [ticket:116] - defs declared within a <%namespace> section, an
uncommon feature, have been improved. The defs no longer get doubly-rendered in
the body() scope, and now allow local variable assignment without breakage.
[ticket:109] - Windows paths are handled correctly if a Template is passed only
an absolute filename (i.e. with c: drive etc.) and no URI - the URI is
converted to a forward-slash path and module_directory is treated as a windows
path. [ticket:128] - TemplateLookup raises TopLevelLookupException for a given
path that is a directory, not a filename, instead of passing through to the
template to generate IOError. [ticket:73] .. 0.2.6 - Fix mako function
decorators to preserve the original function's name in all cases. Patch from
Scott Torborg. - Support the <%namespacename:defname> syntax in the babel
extractor. [ticket:118] - Further fixes to unicode handling of .py files with
the html_error_template. [ticket:88] 0.2.5 - Added a "decorator" kw argument
to <%def>, allows custom decoration functions to wrap rendering callables.
Mainly intended for custom caching algorithms, not sure what other uses there
may be (but there may be). Examples are in the "filtering" docs. - When Mako
creates subdirectories in which to store templates, it uses the more permissive
mode of 0775 instead of 0750, helping out with certain multi-process scenarios.
Note that the mode is always subject to the restrictions of the existing umask.
[ticket:101] - Fixed namespace.__getattr__() to raise AttributeError on
attribute not found instead of RuntimeError. [ticket:104] - Added
last_modified accessor to Template, returns the time.time() when the module was
created. [ticket:97] - Fixed lexing support for whitespace around '=' sign in
defs. [ticket:102] - Removed errant "lower()" in the lexer which was causing
tags to compile with case-insensitive names, thus messing up custom <%call>
names. [ticket:108] - added "mako.__version__" attribute to the base module.

pylons-discuss. To use it, you can pass the cookie_timeout and
cookie_reissue_time to setup_sql_auth(). This is also supported in the Ini
configuration files. Version 1.0.4 (2009-12-07) * Added the options
log_file and log_level to the [authentication] section in the configuration
file. Thanks to Darryl Cousins. Version 1.0.2 and 1.0.3 (2009-10-09) *
Synchronized with the latest version of repoze.what-pylons. Thanks to Chris

python-repoze-who-1.0.18-2.fc12 (FEDORA-2010-8006)
An identification and authentication framework for WSGI
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
1.0.18 (2009-11-05) * Issue #104: AuthTkt plugin was passing an invalid
cookie value in headers from forget, and was not setting the Max-Age and Expires
attributes of those cookies. 1.0.17 (2009-11-05) * Fixed the
repoze.who.plugins.form.make_plugin factory's formcallable argument handling, to
allow passing in a dotted name (e.g., from a config file). 1.0.16
(2009-11-04) * Exposed formcallable argument for
repoze.who.plugins.form.FormPlugin to the callers of the
repoze.who.plugins.form.make_plugin factory. Thanks to Roland Hedburg for the
report. * Fixed an issue that caused the following symptom when using the ini
configuration parser: TypeError: _makePlugin() got multiple values for keyword
argument 'name' See http://bugs.repoze.org/issue92 for more details. Thanks to
vaab for the bug report and initial fix. 1.0.15 (2009-06-25) * If the form
post value max_age exists while in the identify method is handling the
login_handler_path, pass the max_age value in the returned identity dictionary
as max_age. See the below bullet point for why. * If the identity dict passed
to the auth_tkt remember method contains a max_age key with a string (or
integer) value, treat it as a cue to set the Max-Age and Expires headers in the
returned cookies. The cookie Max-Age is set to the value and the Expires is
computed from the current time. 1.0.14 (2009-06-17) * Fix test breakage on
Windows. See http://bugs.repoze.org/issue79 . * Documented issue with using
include_ip setting in the auth_tkt plugin. See http://bugs.repoze.org/issue81 .
* Added 'passthrough_challenge_decider', which avoids re-challenging 401
responses which have been "pre-challenged" by the application. * One-hundred
percent unit test coverage. * Add timeout and reissue_time arguments to the
auth_tkt identifier plugin, courtesty of Paul Johnston. * Add a userid_checker
argument to the auth_tkt identifier plugin, courtesty of Gustavo Narea. If
userid_checker is provided, it must be a dotted Python name that resolves to a
function which accepts a userid and returns a boolean True or False, indicating
whether that user exists in a database. This is a workaround. Due to a design
bug in repoze.who, the only way who can check for user existence is to use one
or more IAuthenticator plugin authenticate methods. If an IAuthenticator's
authenticate method returns true, it means that the user exists. However most
IAuthenticator plugins expect both a username and a password, and will return
False unconditionally if both aren't supplied. This means that an authenticator
can't be used to check if the user "only" exists. The identity provided by an
auth_tkt does not contain a password to check against. The actual design bug in
repoze.who is this: when a user presents credentials from an auth_tkt, he is
considered "preauthenticated". IAuthenticator.authenticate is just never called
for a "preauthenticated" identity, which works fine, but it means that the user
will be considered authenticated even if you deleted the user's record from
whatever database you happen to be using. However, if you use a userid_checker,
you can ensure that a user exists for the auth_tkt supplied userid. If the
userid_checker returns False, the auth_tkt credentials are considered "no good".

python-repoze-who-friendlyform-1.0.6-1.fc12 (FEDORA-2010-8037)
Collection of repoze.who friendly form plugins
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
***Version 1.0.6 (2010-04-28)*** * Restricted the plugin to identify and
challenge to browser requests only. So it won’t come into play if the client is
a Subversion client, for example. ***Version 1.0.5 (2010-04-22)*** * Made
the plugin return str instead of unicode when the request is made using ASCII.
* Added sample code to the documentation on how to use FriendlyFormPlugin, as
suggested by Ian Stevens. ***Version 1.0.1 (2010-01-29)*** * Added the
ability to set another default character encoding for the credentials in
FriendlyFormPlugin. Although ISO-8859-1 (aka “Latin-1”) is the official default
charset according to the HTTP 1.1 specification (the one to be used when no
encoding is explicitly mentioned in the request), browsers (e.g., Firefox) don’t
set it even when they use other encodings like UTF-8. So, if you use a charset
other than Latin-1, you should let the plugin know. This has been reported by
Christoph Zwerschke. ***Version 1.0 Final (2010-01-28)*** * Christoph
Zwerschke made the FriendlyFormPlugin support non-ASCII credentials.

My own ATI card roundup
by Tom Horsley
I didn't have time to fool with the test day for video, but I have
finally gotten around to checking out my personal collection
of ATI cards with latest fedora 13 updates, with these results:
RV410 [Radeon X700 Pro (PCIE)]
------------------------------
My main system uses an RV410 PCIE card. Lots of stuff works
fine on fedora 13 (in fact everything I actually use works
fine). If I stress the card using the mesa-demos gltestperf
test, the whole system locks up and has to be power cycled.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=562607
This doesn't appear to have changed in f13, same thing happens
in f12.
Radeon R100 QD [Radeon 7200]
----------------------------
This is an insanely ancient card (an original ATI
All-In_Wonder). Fedora 12 was the peak of performance for this
card. It actually worked a little. With Fedora 13, all I get is
a "No Signal" message from my monitor. (Which is all I got for
several releases prior to f12 as well :-).
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=522970
RV280 [Radeon 9200] (rev 01)
----------------------------
I think I remember trying this with the live CD in f12 with
very little success. It works better in fedora 13. It can
handle KMS, it can handle turning on compiz, but it starts
going funny in the head when I push things a bit:

Strange NFS issue.
by Ed Greshko
I've a strange issue with an NFS mount on a F13-Beta.
The nfs server is a RHELv4 system. The exports contains....
/home/egreshko 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0(rw,sync,fsid=0,nohide)
This is mounted just fine on a F11 system whose fstab contains...
misty:/ /home/egreshko/misty nfs4 rw
On the F13 system the fstab contains....
192.168.0.55:/ /media/test nfs4 rw
Now the weirdness, on the F13 system....
[egreshko@f13 media]$ ls -l
total 12
drwx------. 170 nobody nobody 8192 Apr 25 10:22 test
[egreshko@f13 media]$ ls -n
total 12
drwx------. 170 99 99 8192 Apr 25 10:22 test
[egreshko@f13 media]$ touch test/x
[egreshko@f13 media]$ ll test/x
-rw-rw-r--. 1 nobody nobody 0 Apr 25 10:23 test/x
[egreshko@f13 media]$ ls -n test/x
-rw-rw-r--. 1 99 99 0 Apr 25 10:23 test/x
If I go to the RHELv4 system or the F11 system I see....
[egreshko@meimei misty]$ ll x
-rw-rw-r--. 1 egreshko egreshko 0 2010-04-25 10:23 x
[egreshko@meimei misty]$ ls -n x
-rw-rw-r--. 1 500 500 0 2010-04-25 10:23 x
I'm thinking it must be related to the idmapd process....
I find it strange that the log file shows....
rpc.idmapd[3376]: nss_getpwnam: name 'egreshko@localdomain' does not map
into domain 'greshko.com'
when....
[root@f13 etc]# hostname
f13.greshko.com
[root@f13 etc]# host f13.greshko.com
f13.greshko.com has address 192.168.0.196
and the idmapd.conf contains....
Domain = greshko.com
Since this works fine on F11, and I'm pretty sure it worked just fine
when testing on F12, it would seem to be something with F13....unless
I'm missing something.

Installing ten days of upgrades leaves system unusable
by Bill Davidsen
I was away on a trip for ten days, so I left the fc13 test system up, running as
a webcam server. It worked flawlessly, I was able to review security videos from
the "motion" app and verify that no one unauthorized was in secure areas.
When I got back this morning I installed available x86_64 upgrades from the last
ten days. Now USB webcams don't work (several crashes submitted via abrt), at
all, meaning that I get to move the security app to another machine I was hoping
to free up.
In addition the graphics (Intel based, this is not a game machine) are painfully
slow, having dropped from ~1k/fps in glxgears to 60, and displays of anything
graphic coming up at sand painting speed. This has to be the worst X upgrade
I've ever seen, video is totally impossible, I'm estimating 30 frames per
*minute* now.
I know a new release will have bugs, but I would expect the upgrades to fix bugs
found, not add new ones for our amusement. FC13 looked really solid when
released, I should have stopped upgrading the kernel and X while they were at
the high point of their usefulness cycle.
I see all the unfixed bugs from fc11 are being marked WONTFIX, the bugs have
been around since FC9 at least, no one has been assigned, and I guess nfs isn't
a hot spot any more.
