{libopal.so,libpt.so} libs needed by ekiga
by Robert P. J. Day
attempt at "yum update --downloadonly" fails claiming that the above
two libs are needed by the package "ekiga". just FYI. i figure i'll
just remove ekiga to get the process rolling.

rpm and md5 errors revisited (solution of yum upgrade rpm confirmed)
by Scott Robbins
I've been quite busy the last few days, so don't know if this was
completely confirmed--sigh, I've even forgotten who placed the entry on
the wiki about it.
At any rate, after installation, doing
yum -y update rpm
(I didn't need any asterisks), seems to have fixed the md5 problem. So,
that solution, as far as I can tell, is confirmed.

ok, laptops loaded up and ready for testing
by Robert P. J. Day
here's the current situation if anyone wants to suggest tests. i
have my two gateway MX7120s installed with fedora 11 alpha -- one with
i386, the other with x86_64 -- virtually identically (about 1550
packages on each).
the first difference is that, at the end of the install, when i
rebooted, the i386 install rebooted cleanly while the x86_64 install
flashed a screenful of kernel diagnostics on its way down, but it
still booted cleanly coming back up again. not sure what that was all
about.
at this point, before i do *anything*, should i take note of the
current setup in any way? suggestions? my first step would be to
update the yum/rpm packages but, to do that, i would first update
"fontpackages-filesystem" since its original packaging conflicted with
"rpm-build" which i installed, so my proposed first step would be:
# yum update fontpackages-filesystem
# yum update rpm\*
# yum update yum
does that make sense? but even before i do that, i'm still open to
what i should record in terms of current config.
thoughts?

Meetings
by Lalit Dhiri
Good morning all,
Just wondering if there is any chance of having a two meetings at different times as the current time (15:00 UTC) will never suit me as I will always be at work. Surely others are in a similar situation.
Any suggestions anyone?
Thanks

anaconda generates brief "Deprecation warning"
by Robert P. J. Day
on both of my laptops (i386 and x86_64 installs), right after
anaconda starts, there is a diagnostic containing the phrase
"Deprecation warning" that flashes up briefly before the install GUI
starts, and i caught a glimpse of a python script filename -- at least
the ".py" part.
1) is this a known issue? i didn't have time to read any more.
2) are these diagnostics stored anywhere so they can be perused
later?

reverting back to older kernel does no GOOD. So I'll patiently await updates to see if one can fix this :)

[Rawhide] Anyone with sound issues?
by Martin Sourada
Hi,
I'm not a regular follower of this list (although I am subscribed), so
sorry if I missed this issue being discussed already...
There seems to be some issues with sound in Rawhide, especially after
the mass rebuild:
issues even before mass rebuild:
* volume seems to be dropping after each song (in rhythmbox it
goes completely mute, in totem after a few songs/videos). Gajim
also seems to be effectively doing this kind of thing... Trying
to increase the volume (scrolling over the volume applet or in
totem over volume button) brings it suddenly back to the
original level, instead of increasing continuously from the
current volume.
* setting the volume is weird, especially when working with more
applications at once. Looks like decreasing volume in one
application results in volume decrease in other applications as
well. Also the volume applet seems to misbehave a little when in
a bottom panel (not a big deal).
* strange sounds are frequently going out of my headphones
(usually high frequency squeaking or something like that).
They're not there all the time, especially they seem to
disappear when something is being played. They're not very
pleasant... This does not happen in F10 so I'd say it's not a
hardware issue.
and after mass rebuild:
* pulse audio does not start correctly, doing pulseaudio -k and
pulseaudio -D sometimes fix the issue. But it does not seem to
work at all when trying to do that when in runlevel 3 (maybe I
am not expected to do that?) Which means, right now I am without
sound...
Does anyone other see these issues as well or is it just me? Are these
known issues? I can file bugs if needed.
Martin
