View Updates - Wait.....-Apply Updates
by Jerry Williams
See little window pop up. 52 updates...
Only button is "View Updates", click it, wait......
See screen, click "Apply Updates"
Would it be possible to have 2 buttons "Apply Updates" and "View Updates"?
That way I can click "Apply Updates" and not have to wait to just click
another button.
Yes, most of the time I do like to look, but what if I have several machines
that all need the same thing?

QA Meeting reminder: 1600UTC, Thursday Jan. 25
by Will Woods
This is your reminder that we'll be holding a QA Meeting in #fedora-qa
at 1600UTC (11AM EST) on Thursday, Jan. 25.
Yeah, that's tomorrow. It was in the meeting notes, but I didn't send an
announcement to the list about it. I swear I will get better about this.
Anyway, as usual, the meeting agenda will be posted on the wiki:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA/Meetings/20070125
Here's a quick summary:
1. Test1 is frozen!
- What's going to be released?
- What do we need to test?
- How is testing going?
- How can we make reporting testing results easier (or clearer)?
2. RHTS update
- hosting.fedoraproject.org code repository (poelstra)
- status of tools
If there's anything else you'd like to discuss, just let me know.
Hope to see you there!

Fighting the i386 plague
by Jonathan Corbet
I'm one of those strange people who thinks that, by virtue of having an
x86_64 system, I shouldn't need to drag a lot of i386 packages around.
But keeping them off the system is a real pain. I ran "yum update" on
my rawhide system just now, and got the following output:
gutenprint x86_64 5.0.0-4.fc7 extras-development 2.7 M
replacing gimp-print-utils.x86_64 4.2.7-24.fc7
gutenprint i386 5.0.0-4.fc7 extras-development 2.7 M
replacing gimp-print-utils.x86_64 4.2.7-24.fc7
Can anybody tell me why it wants to pull in the i386 version of
gutenprint to replace the x86_64 version of gimp-print-utils? Is there
any way to convince it not to do things like that?
Thanks,
jon

fc7 Package Updater - uncheck all?
by Jerry Williams
Is there a way to uncheck all?
I tried shift and select and it does select multiple items, but it only will
uncheck one thing.
I wanted to first update yum and then do the other updates.
Would be nice to be able to uncheck all or check all.
If I have missed it please point me to it.
If not I would like to request the feature.
Thanks!

su (PAM) gotcha
by Jonathan Corbet
In case this is useful to anybody...after yesterday's rawhide update (my
first in a week or two), any attempt to run su would fail with a quick
"incorrect password" message. Before it ever asked for a password.
Even I can't fat-finger something if I don't even get the opportunity to
type.
A quick look in /etc/pam.d revealed my old "su" file from a few years
back, which I had never changed. There was an "su.rpmnew" file there as
well, dated last July. Switching to the new one made my problem go
away. I've not had the time to figure out just what change made the
difference - the PAM files have clearly evolved considerably over time.
I suspect I may not be the only one who runs into this; people who have
been tracking rawhide for a bit may want to take a quick look at the
state of their PAM configuration files. I wonder if it would be
possible to make the package update somehow detect that the new system
is broken and scream accordingly?

strangely lean menus
by Michal Jaegermann
I am not sure in which moment but I lost all "Preferences"
and "Administration" entries from my menus on a gnome desktop.
Bug or a "feature" or I am the only one with this problem?
Somehow I did not discovered anything in bugzilla on the
subject. Surely this is a serious PITA.

sata_promise.c patch from libata-dev.git#upstream
by Jim Bevier
Dave,
Here is the pata drive on sata_promise controller patch. It is the one that
will someday find its way into 2.6.21. Until then, please include this
patch in the kernel build to provide pata drive support. I would be most
thankful.
