vmware guest crash spinlock lockup - bugzilla-able ?
by Development discussions related to Fedora
Hi, I have some machines:
pc1: dell sc430 , 1GB, raid 1 software, intel x86_64 kernel
pc2: shuttle xcube, 1GB, raid 1 software, intel i686 kernel
os1+2: fc6 +updated 2007-01-04, vmware-server-1.0.1
Both machines run two vmware-guests:
1: fc6 +updated 2007-01-04, samba server, winbind
2: fc6 +updated 2007-01-04, dns, dhcp, openldap.
All real and guest vms are running kernel-2.6.18-1.2868.fc6 #1 SMP
After about 48 hours, pc1-vm1 crashed, restarted and still OK. 3 days.
Today I have found that pc2-vm1 and pc2-vm2 have crashed.
Message left on pc2:vm2 screen summary:

Leftover inexact backtrace:

the visible part of the trace with the other vm is different, but mentions the
same spinlock and DWARF messages.
The server and vm guests have quite a few services either disabled or removed,
to reduce overall machine load.
Is this an issue that needs to be reported to bugzilla.redhat ?
Or is there another bug report location that would be best.

virt-manager memory leak?
by Chuck Anderson
Has anyone noticed a memory leak in virt-manager? I have an FC6 host
with an FC6 guest, running virt-manager with graphical and serial
consoles on the guest. I left this running since Dec 27 and when I
got back today the virt-manager python process was using 1.3 Gig
resident RAM.

Fedora Core 6 Test Update: glibc-2.5-10.fc6
by Jakub Jelinek
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Fedora Test Update Notification
FEDORA-2007-1488
2007-01-07
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Product : Fedora Core 6
Name : glibc
Version : 2.5
Release : 10.fc6
Summary : The GNU libc libraries.
Description :
The glibc package contains standard libraries which are used by
multiple programs on the system. In order to save disk space and
memory, as well as to make upgrading easier, common system code is
kept in one place and shared between programs. This particular package
contains the most important sets of shared libraries: the standard C
library and the standard math library. Without these two libraries, a
Linux system will not function.

setroubleshoot-1.8.13-1.fc7
---------------------------
* Sat Jan 06 2007 John Dennis <jdennis(a)redhat.com> - 1.8.13-1
- update translations
- change SETroubleshootDatabase so it is optional if it's backed
by a file, this fixes the problem of us littering temporary files
when scanning logfiles which does not require persistence.
- disable the view logfile menu item if no logfile has been opened
- fix redundant log messages for case where there is no log file and
the console flag is set. When there is no log file the logging
module opens a console stream, thus the console stream produced
by the console flag was redundant.
- add username and password command line arguments
rework startup logic so that all command line args are processed
before we do any real work
- rework the email preferences so that each email address can
have a filter type associated with it.
add a new filter_type "Ignore After First Alert" which filters
after the first alert has been delivered
- add UI for setting the email addresses alerts are sent to.
Add menu item to edit email list, add email list dialog.
Remove 'recipient' config file entry, now list is stored
in seperate file. Add rpc to query and set the email list,
the GUI calls this to get the current list from the server
and set it in the server, it is the server which reads and
writes the file. Add 'enable' flag to each email entry.
Modify how the server iterates over the email list when it
receives an alert. When marking an alert as having been sent
the username is the email address but with 'email:' prepended so
as not to collide with non-email filtering options for the same user.

Expanding a bit on this, the Developer Guidelines ask for the release to be
bumped each time a new package is built, however minor the change.

Difference between a test update and a release of same
by Development discussions related to Fedora
Hi, if I am testing a particular update say dvd+rw-tools, if the test
package is pushed into updates, are the rpm's identical ?
Or are they identical before they are signed for each repository
{updates, updates-testing} ?
I ask to confirm whether or not when the final update is released, will
I get it through yum, or will it be the identical EVR and hence not need
installing ? {Although the --info of the package would say it is
-testing package.}
If yum will get the update version, I guess that would mean a double
download ?
