X problems with FC6t2
by Claude Jones
On my second install: the first was an attempt to preserve /home from my
previous FC4 installation
System came up, but display was badly flawed
System is a P4 2.8 GHz with 1 GB ram tower with NVidia video
Display came up at 1650X1080 - native resolution of my monitor is 1600X1200,
but that wasn't an option. It offers 1280X1024, which looks OK - at the
resolution it came up as, the monitor couldn't compensate and left shifted
the whole picture an inch or so - all fonts looked terrible and the whole
picture was fuzzy and aliased - tried to reconfigure the display in multiple
ways, including using system-config-display from runlevel 3, but to no avail.
It says it can't detect the monitor or video - if I select the video button,
the list comes up and it highlights the NVidia card - accepting that returns
the "unkown" legend next to the video button; clicking on the monitor button
yields no response.
Re-installed - got a failure to install Grub (happenned both times) had to go
into rescue mode and install Grub - on this install, I started from scratch,
formatting my old /home
I got the same result as described above
Installed yumex
Found updates for system-config-display
Applied, and that offered me the 1600x1200 resolution which seemed to 'take'
Videocard was listed as 'unknown' - tried to set it, and it detected NVidia,
but selecting that just returned 'unknown' next to the video button
Found updates for x
Applied those
Now, the system can't start X
There are no mode lines in xorg.conf - one message noted that

FC6t2 install
by Gerry Tool
My first install of FC6t2 from DVD went well, but first boot failed to
complete. I had included the Xen packages in the install.
A second install without Xen went well, and first boot completed as
expected. Everything looks great. The new background artwork looks
sharp. No problems to report yet.

* clean up and rework the timestamp code in util.py so that
time zones are handled properly, there were a number of bugs.
Hopefully it's correct now because timezone handling is a pain.
* change the time format in the browser so all times are displayed
identically, the friendly time relative format was hard to compare.
* modify the plugin 'make install' to delete all existing plugin's
prior to installing the new ones
* add popup menu to status icon to choose between browser and
alert GUI (not fully connected yet). Several bug fixes related
to changing the filter_type from a string to an int.
* add filter selection to bottom pane, change filter_type from
string to integer constant. Enhance how columns are handled.
Get init_combo_box to work. Remove unused RPM and Bugzilla
fields from bottom pane. Modify the default size of the browser
window. Fix missing import in util.py.
* add ability in broswer to sort on columns, initially the report
count column and the last seen date column. The date column now
stores a TimeStamp object instead of a string. Add new method
to TimeStamp to return a friendly string relative to the current
time. The date column in the browser now has a cell data function
which invokes the friendly format method of the TimeStamp object.
* add ability fo serialize to/from xml for classes which can
inititialized from strings and serialized as strings (e.g. numbers,
TimeStamps, etc.)
* add count of how many times a signature is reported, the date
when first and last reported, add columns for report count and
last date count to browser.
* checkpoint browser code, list pane and detail pane now working.
* add initial support for browser applet, move some functions which
kept getting reused to util.py
* add reporting of environment to email alert (email alerts still
need work)
- Dan Walsh <dwalsh(a)redhat.com>
* Fix disable_trans.py set_boolean call
* Complete all boolean plugins except disable
* Change interface to use audit unix domain socket
* Fri Jul 28 2006 Dan Walsh <dwalsh(a)redhat.com> - 0.16-1
- John Dennis <jdennis(a)redhat.com>
* modify SetFilter in server to return errors instead of
throwing an exception. Default the filter list on each alert display.
* minor tweaks to alert queue handling
* fix analyze() parameter list in ftp_is_daemon.py plugin
* sealert now responds to pending alerts more correctly, it shows
how many pending alerts are in the queue, if you filter the pending
alert status is updated, the next alert button will advance you
to the next alert in the queue
* simplify major pieces of sealert by coalescing common code
into subroutines.
- Dan Walsh <dwalsh(a)redhat.com>
* Complete all boolean plugins except disable
* Make Close button work.
* Make setroubleshoot_dispatcher exit if it gets an avc about itself

Evo 2.7.90 on FC6 test
by William Murray
Hello guys,
yum update has not worked for me for a few days, blocked
by:
--> Running transaction check
--> Processing Dependency: libebook-1.2.so.5 for package: control-center
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Missing Dependency: libebook-1.2.so.5 is needed by package
control-center
The problem seem to be that control-center-2.15.90-1.fc6,
which would appear to match evolution-data-server.i386 0:1.7.90.1-5
still expects the old libebook libraries.
Could that be fixed please?
Also, (mixing threads) how is one supposed to use pup/proxy behind a
firewall? I have a /etc/profile.d/proxy.sh which defines proxies, but
somehow these two always fail, while outside the firewall they work
fine.

yum update – many available.
Can't update due to
Error: Missing Dependency: libebook-1.2.so.5 is needed by package

This is provided by an evolution package, but excluding evolution*
results in many more failed dependencies. Will wait for a day or so to
see if this clears.

Spamassassin not learning or is sendmail at fault?
by Paul F. Johnson
Hi,
I'm not sure where the fault lies here.
I have a problem with someone sending me a lot of unpleasant email. I
have their email address, IP address and the such. There is nothing
illegal in the emails and certainly nothing I can complain to their ISP
over - it's just a lot of email.
I have a sendmail rule set up which has
FROM: some_fool(a)uk-isp.co.uk REJECT
I ran the makefile and restarted sendmail.
Whenever email from this person comes through, I hit the junk button on
evolution which sends the email to the Junk folder.
However, emails from said person keep getting through to my inbox. Is
this just spamassassin not learning or is it sendmail misbehaving?
If it's spamassassin, how can I force it to learn I don't want anything
from this bozo? There was sa-learn at one point, but I'm not sure which
folder I need to point it at to learn what is spam and what isn't.
I'm using sendmail and evolution from rawhide.

pine on fc6t2
by Tom Diehl
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has been successful in getting pine to work with
FC6t2? I took the srpm from livna and built it on my test box. When I try to
run it I get the following error:
(tigger pts40) $ pine
pine: g_initialize.c:97: gss_release_oid: Assertion `(&(&_m->os)->n)->initialized == K5_MUTEX_DEBUG_INITIALIZED' failed.
Aborted
(tigger pts40) $
Some google seems to indicate this might be some kind of regression in krb-1.5
but I have not been able to find either a confirmation or solution to the problem.
FWIW, the box in question is tracking rawhide.
Does anyone have an idea how to fix this??
Regards,
Tom
