the 8859-1 rpms appear to be installed, the files are in the
/usr/share/X11/fonts/75dpi
and
/usr/share/X11/fonts/100dpi
directories. however, the fonts.dir files in the respective directories
don't have the 8859-1 font files listed. only the 10646-1 font files are
listed.

RE: FC5t2 - leaches gone wild!
by Brown, Len

I downloaded the i386 CDs and DVD plus the x86_64 CDs and DVD last night
and I'm now seeding all four.
I use 6mb down/768kb up Comcast service
where I see about 200-550KB/s down and 80KB/s up at the client.
I'm using azureus as the bt client.
One thing I've noticed is that if I set my upload speed to unlimited
then it has a significant negative impact on my download speed.
So you might experiment with the client's upload limit to make sure that
you don't run into your ISP's limits for your service, for it may be
that under those conditions the ISP is dropping some of your packets
and this is making the protocol run inefficiently.

fc5t2, wireless, & gdm(?)
by Anne & Lynn Wheeler
i did a fc5t2 cdrom upgrade on a laptop fc4 machine (latest fc4 updates,
and latest 2200 firmware).
graphical boot comes up hosed (i get a couple messages saying x
configuration is bad and then it locks up). i boot non-graphical, login
line-mode, and do a startx and then everything is fine.
i had gigabit eth0 and 802.11 eth1 on fc4. the upgrade seemed to want to
force wireless to eth0. this left the network configuration information
somewhat inconsistent (it sort of claimed that both eth0 & eth1 were
wireless). kwifmanager could access the wireless ... but couldn't
activate. i finally deleted both eth0, eth1 and the respective hardware;
re-added them (even adding gigabit first, it became eth1 and wireless
then became eth0). then enet & wireless were fine.
btw, is there anyway in the network start interface to specify that ssid
is hidden (other than doing it with iwconfig command).
also, this is sony vaio laptop and something has gone amiss in some part
of acpi(?) ... i'm getting a couple errors a second about not being able
to read this or that value ... creating large syslog files ... to the
point that i turn syslogd off as a work around.
i had similar problem early in fc4 time-frame ... but then it cleared
after some period and some number of updates (at some point i checked to
see if it was still a problem and somehow it had gone away). i don't
really know if it is a problem in fc5t2 or because i did an upgrade
installation instead of a fresh install.

Must I install FC2 Test 2?
by Chasecreek Systemhouse
Must I install FC2 Test 2? Or can I just keep my "operational"
system updated with the development branch?
I am wondering -- Isn't that the same thing?
Or do the CDROMs have differing software than the development download branch?

Re: After I get the ipw2200 up...
by Alexander Sukhodolsky
Looks like a little troubleshooting has determined there's nothing wrong
with the setup--I disabled the key and it works! But the last thing I want
is an unsecured wireless connection. Basically, I have a WEP 64-bit hex key
for my wireless net. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Alex
PS Thanks for the help

After I get the ipw2200 up...
by Alexander Sukhodolsky
So I followed Justin Conover's ipw2200 how-to (very easy) and got my
wireless adapter to be recognized under the new fc5 test2 (i used the
newest firmware, though). But now I'm having problems actually
connecting. Basically, I went with what I know--kwifimanager and also
system-config-network. The system-config-network shows my wireless card
and I try to set up a connection but nothing. Now with kwifimanager, it
shows all the ssid's of networks around and I set up in the
configuration my network, and its corresponding password, and it does
connect, but firefox shows nothing. Any ideas?
Also--I tried networkmanager, including running the services
(serviceconf) and running it, but to no avail--/usr/bin doesnt seem to
have NetworkManagerInfo or something. Any ideas? Anyone else have
these problems in the new fc5 test2?
Thanks,
Alex

[Solution] GDM Slows to a crawl after upgrade
by Chasecreek Systemhouse
GDM Slows to a crawl after upgrade...
The system:
PowerPC 1999 NewWorld iMac 350MHz 320MB RAM ATI Rage128 graphics (6MB
video, I think); (also shows up as a Firewire MoBo but there aren't
any external firewire ports. On a funny note, the internal modem was
hit by lightning in 2000 but FC5Test keeps thinking the modem is there
but not responding; so I get a modem related start-up error... LOL.)
Some background:
OK, anyways, I upgraded GDM this past weekend and the graphics
subsystem immediately crawled to a halt and died. Last week, on an
unrelated issue someone had suggested I try "vesa" -- I did that after
I changed the runlevel to 3 and edited /etc/X11/xorg.conf -- the vesa
suggestion didn't work, but read on ...
I then tried startx from runlevel 3 and got a ton of errors. After
the system display config TUI installed a new xorg.conf the gdm and
kde graphics systems started working again without any lag. Except
for a line saying I want 24bit color as default -- the old file and
the new file look identical.
Am I on the right troubleshooting path? Every now and again the
graphics slows to a crawl for few moments then works as expected.
This system does not have network connectivity and I am thinking this
is somehow networking related.
I plumbed the eth0 to inet 192.168.1.254 and pointed the default route
and the DNS to the same address. Now all seems to working correctly.
My question:
Has the 'lo 127.0.0.1' interface started being ignored now?
