How to get apt for FC3
by Ernest L. Williams Jr.
Hi,
How does one get "apt" for FC3?
Looks like yum and up2date are part of the FC3 distro but not apt?
Thanks,
Ernesto

problem with kernel-2.6.9-1.1_FC2 initrd - can't recreate, but disturbing
by Matthew Miller
I installed kernel-2.6.9-1.2_FC2.i686.rpm from updates/testing, to see what
would happen. Standard rpm -ivh; nothing fancy. Then, I changed grub.conf to
make the new kernel the default, and rebooted. Woops; panic. Turns out the
initrd-2.6.9-1.2_FC2.img was completely empty (12k file, properly a gzipped
ext2 image, but with no content). I ran mkinitrd by hand, and it worked
fine. And then I uninstalled the kernel and reinstalled it, and this time,
the initrd image was created just fine.
So, maybe it was a bizarre fluke. But I thought I'd mention it just in case
anyone else has similar problems....

Applications for FC4
by Joel Juliano
This where just mere application request, an open discussion of
suggested software hoping to be release for FC4.
I got lot' of application request, here are them as follows
- Inkscape - A good SVG editor for Gnome, coz it always end up
fronting Gimp as a Paint substitute.
- BitTorrent - I think there's reasons to include this.
- Dr. Python - an IDE for Python.
- Anjuta - C/C++ IDE

poor HD performance
by Lyle Chapman
I installed FC3 the other day and found some really cool new features
and the like but discovered a few bugs as well. I found HD performance
is slow compared to FC2. I ran some copy tests between multiple disks
(I have 3 fairly new ATA 133 drives and a brand new DVD burner) and I
noticed that the processor usage skyrocketed (50%+ on a normal copy)
and while burning to DVD is fine reading from it is severly slow.
I have checked hdparm and everything seems ok yet even though my
machine is relativley new (3ghz, 2gb ram etc) it seems to really
struggle with disk speed. I am also running the SMP kernel with
hyperthreading turned on whereas in FC2 I was running the normal kernel
without hyperthreading, could that have something to do with the
problem. Has anyone got the same problem and or a solution. It would be
most appreciated.
cheers,

FC3 NFS install with ISO images does not work
by George Hill
Can you do an NFS install using ISO images with FC3 as
you could with FC2? I just tried and it did not work.
With FC2, you could boot as linux askmethod, specify
NFS, point to an NFS-mountable directory that
contained the ISO images, and install. I tried that
with FC3 and I get a message saying that it does not
look like the directory contains Fedora. When I did a
mount -o loop ... the NFS install went fine (until it
ran out of stuff to install -- I could only mount one
iso image). Anyone else run into this? Thoughts?
Thanks,
Geo Hill

problems with scsi tape support and ASR-2000S
by Eric Hoeve
I did a default custom install of FC3 and was able to install everything
just fine. I have no problems with installation, but I am unable to
access my scsi tape drive (A Sony SDT-11000: Channel 1 ID 6).
Under FC1 I was able to access the tape drive via /dev/st0 & /dev/nst0.
When I do the following command:
Am I missing something?
~]# mt -f /dev/st0 rewind
I get No such file or directory.
I have looked in /dev and there is no st0 or nst0
