Not only we would need to think about the new build mechanism but also have a plan in
place and allocate time to update the release scripts. Over the past few years we improved
from having a publishable release build in a 2-3 weeks time-frame down to about 8 hours. I
think its important to keep the same level if not reduce the complexity and amount of time
required for a release build.
I see your point and this is important. As we only build releases "every now and
then", but work as developers every day (times developers and contributors),
it may be in a total economical sense better to have a slightly slower release build.

jobs were deleting/updating artifacts at the same time.
They would not step on the toes, as rhq-plugins and rhq-helpers would work against
published modules/core/* artifacts that do not change.
Artifacts from rhq-core would not be taken in the two other jobs.
The other challenge that I see with splitting the current jobs into
three jobs is the explosion on the number of Jenkins jobs. Today we have a chain of 7 jobs
chained for master. Multiply that with 3 and we would need to monitor, update, and fix
about 21 jobs. If we have to maintain builds for two branches that would be a total of 42
jobs.
I do not think this huge multiplication is really needed.
And especially the helpers which are modules that are not part of the core rhq product,
but rather stuff like pluginGenerator for sure do not need all the build magic.
Plugins may be different. And we can still decide that JON-plugins are part of rhq-core
with the caveat, that this renders it less likely that external contributor check
them out and work on them.
