Hello,
I remember several people incl. me talking about auto-import feature for
RHQ. For sure, this feature can be implemented by anyone just by hitting
CLI or REST with his own script.
I wrote server plugin doing the same. It's a scheduled job running every 5
minutes - better would be if plugin could listen whenever new resources
appear. Do we have such feature?.
Plugin has several settings:
- auto-import platforms (true/false) - enable auto-import for new platforms
- subnet filter (longString) - user can define subnets (eg
192.168.1.0/24). Only agents connecting from matching subnets are
auto-imported
- children (true/false) - auto-import platform child resources.
When plugin is deployed everything is disabled.
Do you guys have any ideas about this plugin? Or at least ACK to push it
to master and be built & deployed to RHQ?
This sounds great to me!
Of course, I more envisioned this as part of the server's core inventory
management controls provided as settings for inventory discovery.
Perhaps even at the resource type level itself:
- auto discovery?
- auto import? (with or without criteria)
- auto ignore?
This way whether you are dealing with a platform, server or service, the
same types of settings would always apply. Obviously, criteria may
differ between resource types and perhaps could be expressed similar to
dynamic group queries. And perhaps some resource types are marked as
special types and can not be set such as the RHQ storage node resource
always being auto-imported.
In any event, I think this would be a great feature assuming it doesn't
introduce conflicting or confusing definitions and configuration work
flow.
