Yeah, I don't like it either. I was just trying to avoid API changes.
But since that method is only in the local interface, I guess I can add
a new method, or methods, with less cryptic semantics, and then
deprecate, or even just remove, this one.

I am not sure I like this overloading too much, even if it makes sense.
A more explicit (= additional parameter) could be better.
