How to make the changes of inventory connection effective in discovery component?
by Lin Gao
Hi:
If the value of one inventory connection is part of the resource
component name, how to make the resource component name reflecting the
changes of the inventory connection value.
below is an example:
rhq-plugin.xml:
<server name="HttpServer-Host" description="Http server host and port"
discovery="HttpHostDiscoveryComponent"
class="HttpHostResourceComponent"
supportsManualAdd="true">
<plugin-configuration>
<c:simple-property name="host" description="host of target http server" />
<c:simple-property name="port" description="port of target http server" />
</plugin-configuration>
</server>
HttpHostDiscoveryComponent.java:
public Set<DiscoveredResourceDetails> discoverResources(
ResourceDiscoveryContext<HttpHostResourceComponent> context)
throws InvalidPluginConfigurationException, Exception {
Set<DiscoveredResourceDetails> result = new
HashSet<DiscoveredResourceDetails>();
for(Configuration config: context.getPluginConfigurations()){
String host = config.getSimpleValue(PLUGIN_CONFIG_HOST_KEY,
null);
Integer port =
Integer.valueOf(config.getSimpleValue(PLUGIN_CONFIG_PORT_KEY, "80"));
String resourceKey = "HTTP_CHECK_" + host + ":" + port;
String resourceName = "Http Checker on: " + host + ":" + port;
String resourceVersion = "1.0.0";
String resourceDescription = "Http Checker on server: " +
host + ":" + port + ".";
DiscoveredResourceDetails resource = new
DiscoveredResourceDetails(context.getResourceType(), resourceKey,
resourceName, resourceVersion, resourceDescription, config, null);
result.add(resource);
}
return result;
}
If the host is defined to: 127.0.0.1 and port to: 80 when the server is
added manually, the name of this resource component in the navigate tree
is: "Http Checker on: 127.0.0.1:80", after that, if the host is
changed(inventory->connection->edit...), the name of the resource
component in the navigate tree is not changed, even re load the tree, so
how to make it changed also?

coregui upgraded to SmartGWT 2.4
by Ian Springer
Fyi, I just upgraded coregui from our home-built 2.2.RHQ2 version of
SmartGWT to the just released 2.4 official release [1]. I did 20 minutes
or so of smoke testing and I didn't find any regressions, but we'll need
to keep an eye out and hopefully come up with fixes for anything that
crops up, rather than downgrading. If we don't hit any blockers that
force us to downgrade in the next week or so, we can consider also
upgrading GWT to 2.1.1, with which SmartGWT 2.4 is compatible.
Once you pull this commit, you'll need to do a mvn clean install of
coregui to make sure the old smartgwt jars get deleted from your
coregui.war's WEB-INF/lib/.

Experimental monitoring apache httpd via mod_bmx
by Heiko W.Rupp
Hi,
monitoring apache httpd in RHQ requires the snmp module being present, which is currently problematic (don't ask please).
Ian pointed out mod_bmx (https://github.com/hyperic/mod_bmx , ASL license) which provides (some of) the same data.
While mod_bmx works quite well, it still has some issues for production use:
https://github.com/hyperic/mod_bmx/blob/master/STATUS.txt
Good thing is that mod_bmx is fairly small and does not require all the complex dependencies.
I've written a proof of concept plugin for RHQ that uses mod_bmx to grab the data and monitor httpd.
Code and a binary version can be found at https://github.com/pilhuhn/rhq-apache-bmx
It currently expects the handler to be mounted at /bmx and not being protected.
Perhaps this is a viable alternative to mod_snmp in the future.

building master after merging delete-agent-plugin branch
by John Sanda
Yesterday I merged the delete-agent-plugin branch into master. There are
some changes that need to be pointed out with respect to building.
core/domain has some test utility classes that are used in other modules
like server/jar. I updated the build in core/domain to generate a test
jar file (See
http://maven.apache.org/guides/mini/guide-attached-tests.html for more
info). If you build using -Dmaven.test.skip the test jar will not
created. maven.test.skip causes maven to skip both compiling and
executing tests. This has led to build failures for some people when
they have tried rebuilding after my merge. Instead of using
-Dmaven.test.skip please use -DskipTests which causes tests to be
compiled but still skips execution of those tests. This way the test
jars will still get generated. Sorry for any confusion/inconvenience.

Well. As you may have seen in the standalone container demo (need to
record a video) this data would be available for use by the domain as well.
What I want to prevent is:
- projects have to write two plugins for AS7 and for standalone/jmx
- extension of the basic AS7 plugin when the end-user adds a new subsystem to AS7 (like e.g. ISPN or
ActiveMQ or Drools or ... ) -- is this actually something the domain management system of AS7 supports?
I've updated the page with an alternative approach
