Hi!
Hi Danny!
Thanks very much for looking into them!
I took a look at this bug
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1799930
to step into troubleshooting these bugs. Its a lot and I'm over my head, but
I've focused on lines 304-307 in the root.log
DEBUG util.py:596: No matches found for the following disable plugin patterns:
local, spacewalk
DEBUG util.py:596: No matching package to install: 'mvn(edu.ucar:cdm)'
DEBUG util.py:596: Not all dependencies satisfied
DEBUG util.py:596: Error: Some packages could not be found.
Are you sure this is from the python-fsleyes FTBFS bug that you've
linked to (1799930)? I *think* it may be the hdfview FTBFS bug:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1799506
I did some research, and my guess is that it may be related to this
issue:
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel@lists.fedoraproject.org/
message/2V2RRTT7DTHWANFHL6YBVM7RILCWDGGT/
I'm just guessing here, and I haven't figured out what the next steps
are yet. Do you guys know of any walkthroughs/screen shares of fixing
bug reports? It would be quite helpful to see what steps a seasoned
debugger would take to resolve a bug.
The diagnostic process generally requires finding the first error, then
checking to see what causes it, and so on until the root cause has been
found. In this case, this is what I'd done:
You found the correct error. The error says that nothing in the Fedora
repositories provides 'mvn(edu.ucar:cdm)'. One can confirm this using
`dnf` to query the Fedora repositories:
$ sudo dnf repoquery --whatprovides 'mvn(edu.ucar:cdm)'
netcdf-java-0:4.6.2-10.fc31.noarch
So, it's available on F31. It isn't on F32+, though:
$ sudo dnf --release 32 repoquery --whatprovides 'mvn(edu.ucar:cdm)'
# No output (nothing provides it)
In F32, the thredds package that provided netcdf-java has been retired.
https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/thredds
netcdf-java is also no longer distributed in thredds, and will need to
be packaged separately.
https://github.com/Unidata/netcdf-java
*Unfortunately*, netcdf-java uses the Gradle build system, but Gradle
has also been orphaned in Fedora (*sigh*). So this is no longer a
trivial task. I discussed this on the -devel list recently:
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel@lists.fedoraproject.o...
The conclusion seems to be that packaging Gradle is quite hard. So, the
short-term workaround is to convert Gradle build project files to Maven
projects (Maven is in the Fedora repos and can still be used). I don't
know how to do this yet:
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel@lists.fedoraproject.o...
I had commented on the other hdfview bug:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1797361
but not on the FTBFS one. Sorry about that. I've commented there too
now so everyone knows.
TLDR: updating or fixing hdfview is quite a hard task at the moment :'('
I looked at a few of the bugs today and fixed ones I could figure out.
Still lots of open bugs to look at, though.
