NEURON updated to 7.7.2: test cases added, testing needed
by Ankur Sinha
Hello!
We just updated NEURON to the latest version. While pushing the update,
I also wrote two simple test cases for the package, one for NEURON, and
the other for NEURON's python bindings.
If any one would like to learn a bit about NEURON, the test cases are an
excellent start. They basically ask you to go through the beginner's
tutorial. Do give them a go and let me know what you think. If they
aren't clear enough, for example, please let me know so I can improve
them.
https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/?packages=neuron
General information on testing packages can be found here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Updates_Testing
As we update more packages, the idea is to write simple test case for
them all. This helps everyone (neuro and non neuro contributors) test
packages while learning a little about the tools too.
As always, if there are any queries, please use any of our channels to
get in touch with us.

No, you're not missing anything. :)
It depends on the software really. Some modelling tools aren't
graphical at all. Instead they are libraries that you use. As an
example, if you wanted to use NEST, you write your simulation in Python
as shown in their documentation[1]. You can use a Python IDE like
PyCharm to do the programming, but NEST itself does not have a graphical
interface. (I think one is being developed, though.)
Neuron is similar. It does have a UI, but not to write the actual
simulation bits. One can now use Python for Neuron also[2].
For other tools that aren't shown in the graphical list, you may need to
run them using the terminal. Their individual documentations will tell
you what the "executable" to be run is.
Does that make sense? If you can tell us what specific tool you want to
work with, we'll be able to provide more specific documentation.

accessing installed packages
by Moe Alkhawashki (PGR)
Hello,
I built a linux OS on my computer using your computational neuroscience insallation media with fedora 31.
I couldn't find any of the software that's supposed to be bundled with it anywhere in the OS graphical interface. I thought there might have been a mistake so I attempted to install the software manually but the terminal kept saying that the software was already installed.
Am I not seeing something? How do I access the installed software? My only experience with linux was with ubuntu an debian and it's relatively limited so excuse this question if it's simple.
Thank you!

Sure, no worries. I'll chair it. All the best for your interview!

I received this email also, so it seems like a more widespread error
