Fwd: Re: [Fedora-i18n-list] keyboard difficulties
by John Francis Lee
I am sorry to bother you again, but I am still unable to enter Japanese
from the keyboard.
I have gimlet with Japanese and English as choices.
When I choose Japanese I cannot input anything at all.
When I choose English I can input English.
Thanks, for all your help.
Note: forwarded message attached.

[Fedora-i18n-list] package contribution
by Thomas Wolff
Hello,
I'd like to contribute a package to your Linux distribution and I have
a few questions:
* What is the supposed procedure for proposing a new package and
getting it accepted?
* What is to be done to produce the actual package?
* If I contribute to Redhat, will the package automatically be
included in Fedora, Fermi, Scientific Linux as well?
* If I contribute to Fedora, will the package automatically be
included in Redhat and its other derivatives?
The package is my editor mined (http://towo.net/mined/) which is
of special interest for the internationalization community.
It has extensive Unicode and CJK support. It also has an intuitive
user interface and supports modern interaction paradigms in the
text mode terminal (e.g. mouse control and menus in xterm).
I'd appreciate comments and hints on how to proceed.
Thanks and kind regards,
Thomas Wolff

Hi,
Thank you for your answers.
I've checked the version I use. It's iiimf-le-xcin-0.1.7-9 on FC3, which is
older than yours.
I've upgraded it to 'iiimf-le-xcin-0.1.10-1'. It worked but I didn't find cj,
phone, simplex and other input methods I had before. Instead there're four
input methods and they are all pinyin (智能拼音, GRB拼音, etc.).
In this case I couldn't test how cj and phone work on this version. Later I've
changed it back to my previous version. :|
I've also found a website with the same problem with me:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=151760
Finally, may I ask what input method do you use? :)

Yes. I was under "phone".

I see. But right now I can't try it out...

[Fedora-i18n-list] iiimf/iimf-le-canna on FC3 not working
by Michael Krajnak
I recently installed iiimf on an FC3 system but can not get the
input method to work.
Normally I operate in the en_US locale and switch using gimlet
or launch an app with command line arguments (LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8
etc.).
When the IM is enabled as characters are typed in they show up in
english only, although they are underlined. When the space bar is
pressed nothing happens... I still see english.
There are several copies of the following htt_server messages in
the system log:
Apr 15 23:24:25 localhost htt_server[3530]: status has not been
enabled yet. (1, 1)
Apr 15 23:24:52 localhost htt_server[3530]: Client shut down the
connection owned by im_id(1).
At some point during this operation a red border appears around the
gimilet applet in the gnome panel. I assume this indicates some sort
of error state, but can't find any more details.
I've double checked the entries in the faq, I have all the packages,
setup ~/.xinput.d, double checked the fonts, searched the archives
and net for similiar responses, etc. etc.
Any help would be appreciated, up to and including telling where
the sources are.
Thanks,
Mike

I was just about to email you to go ahead.
The actual release notes that are shipping with FC4 were tagged in CVS
last week. This are different from what is currently in CVS.
Since we are releasing translations for the Web only right now, I guess
it is OK to use the latest in CVS.
I'd like to host any translations on fedora.redhat.com/docs/release-
notes. (Note: this page is not yet created but will be the FC4 release)
The release notes point users there for the latest information and
errata.
We will have the English-only version that shipped with FC4 and the
updated FC4+ relnotes, and can have any translations in that same list.

I'm sorry to all translators that we aren't getting any translations of
the release notes into FC4.
There wasn't enough time from the completion of the notes until it went
gold. It was hours, not even days. This is because we finished the
release notes at literally the last hour before final freeze.
This will all be better for FC5 and even the test release notes.
As for the po2xml, that sounds great. I'm interested in seeing how it
looks. The documentation pages at fedora.redhat.com/docs/ are built
first from DocBook HTML output, then wrapped in PHP includes. This
means it should be easy to post your translations. Presuming I don't
mess up the coding. :)

[Fedora-i18n-list] Questions in iiimf
by Tina Chou

[Fedora-i18n-list] keyboard difficulties
by John Francis Lee
Hello,
I am following along with the FAQ :
Q: Can I manually enable IIIMF for other locales or all locales so
that I can use [insert your favorite language engine name]?
$ mkdir ~/.xinput.d
$ ln -s /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/iiimf ~/.xinput.d/default
$ mkdir ~/.xinput.d
$ ln -s /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/iiimf ~/.xinput.d/en_US
Then restart X.
I did that
Q: I do not have GIMLET (gnome-im-switcher) enabled on my desktop.
What should I do?
* Right click on your panel
* Press "add to panel"
* Select "InputMethod Switcher"
* Press "Add"
I did that
Q: OK! It is still not working in GNOME. What can I check?
* Check if you have installed iiimf-server, iiimf-x, iiimf-libs,
iiimf-gtk, iiimf-gnome-im-switcher, and one of the language engine
above
* Check if you have started IIIM service: i.e. service iiim status.
If not please start the service in root: service iiim start
* Check manually if the server is working by running
LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 GTK_IM_MODULE=iiim gedit (if you have installed
iiimf-le-canna. Please check the previous question for locale reference
to language engine)
I did that... japanese input works!
* If it is working, that's mean you do not have the environment
variable or correct locale. Please check what locale are you in by
running locale in command line, or check if you have ~/.xinput.d setup
correctly.
I am confused... I chose Japanes when I logged into to gnome, yet
[ws4@ws4 ~]$ locale
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=
And do I have to change my locale just to enter Japanese?
When I use the default hotkey <ctrl-space> nothing is entered when I
use the keyboard. As well I now have a keyboard selector which
alternates between <USA, Tha> and the gimlet app which alternates
between <en,jp> on my icon line. Thai and English still seem to work
ok. And Japanese does when I include the locale on the gedit command
line (at least I think it does, the romanji box appears. I don't know
Japanese).
Thanks for any help you might give me.

Re: [Fedora-i18n-list] All KDE Apps Crash on Inserting Symbol in OpenOffice
by James Ryan
Yes, the processes are still running, but it cannot convert. I press ctrl-space and nothing happens. Also, even if I kill and restart the processes, it doesn't work...I have to restart X.
