Some input methods lets you type characters in the order "as you handwrite"; those input methods reorder the input characters when they are committed to satisfy the Unicode character order specification.
If you use such input methods with preedit, you may need to behave differently to change the same string, depending on whether it has already been committed or not. This is an confusing situation.
