[Fedora-i18n-bugs] [Bug 501214] New: light blue ibus icon is not obvious
by Red Hat Bugzilla

Summary: light blue ibus icon is not obvious
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=501214
Summary: light blue ibus icon is not obvious
Product: Fedora
Version: rawhide
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: medium
Priority: low
Component: ibus
AssignedTo: phuang(a)redhat.com
ReportedBy: petersen(a)redhat.com
QAContact: extras-qa(a)fedoraproject.org
CC: eukim(a)redhat.com, phuang(a)redhat.com,
fedora-i18n-bugs(a)redhat.com
Estimated Hours: 0.0
Classification: Fedora
Target Release: ---
Description of problem:
The ibus icon in the panel is not obvious and hard for first-time users to
understand.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. start fedora desktop with ibus
2. try to find out how to control IM
Actual results:
2. The current icon has no obvious connection with keyboard or input other than
'i'.
Expected results:
Clearer icon which new users can quickly recognise as for inputs.
Additional info:
Actually I would like to change the panel UI so that it more obvious what the
current input method is when ibus is off.
eg It could show a cross over the IME icon to show that IM is off,
a bit like gnome-power-manager's inhibit applet for example.
Or maybe we don't need custom icons for IMEs and just use
a character for each IME to represent it and display that in the applet.

Description of problem:
In case of conjuncts with Yaphala (U09CD+U09AF), multiple Yaphala signs can be
typed consecutively giving rise to invalid conjunct combinations.
e.g ক্য্য্য্য (ক+্+য+্+য+্+য+্+য)
This error could be replicated in gedit, kwrite and Openoffice.org Writer
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
fonts-indic: 2.3.8-1.fc11
gedit : 2.26.1-1.fc11
openoffice.org: 3.1.0-9.2.fc11
kdebase : 4.2.2-2.fc11
How reproducible:
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open gedit
2. Type in the following unicode values (for the above example) :
U0995+U09CD+U09AF+U09CD+U09AF+U09CD+U09AF+U09CD+U09AF
Actual results:
The last 3 U09CD+U09AF pairs are allowed as part of the conjunct
Expected results:
The U09CD+U09AF pair should not be allowed to be rendered after another
U09CD+U09AF. i.e. only one U09CD+U09AF pair can be used when combining with
another consonant to form a conjunct.
Additional info:
Please do note that: U09AF+U09CD+U09AF is a valid conjunct combination, where
two U09AF characters combine to form a conjunct (য্য)

repo-font-audit is a tool to check whether a font package for Fedora complies
with
Packaging:FontsPolicy.(Url:http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging:FontsP...
After doing this check, it reports the error that the zenheiset script has
wrong permission set(744).
And it also reports that the zenheiset script should not be in
wqy-zenhei-fonts. From the FontsPolicy, the script should be put in
wqy-zenhei-fonts-common.
There are two candidates solution:
1. remove the zenheiset script from wqy-zenhei-fonts package.
2. keep the zenheiset script in wqy-zenhei-fonts-common, following the steps
below:
a. mv the zenheiset script and docs files to wqy-zenhei-fonts-common
(README, COPYING etc.)
b. correct the zenheiset script permission to 0755 or other possible
permission.
Which solution do you prefer?
Maybe we can discuss it on irc.(#fedora-meeting, freenode.)
After discussing, I will modify the zenhei and microhei package to comply with
the FontPolicy.
