Summary: ibus-setup window too small to display engines start and preload

Summary: ibus-setup window too small to display engines start
and preload
Product: Fedora
Version: rawhide
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: medium
Priority: medium
Component: ibus
AssignedTo: shawn.p.huang(a)gmail.com
ReportedBy: petersen(a)redhat.com

Classification: Fedora
Description of problem:
The IBus setup program default window size requires using widget scrollbars to
see the whole engines pane selection widget.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. run ibus-setup (on Japanese desktop if it matters)
2. select Engines pane
Actual results:
Window is too narrow to display full width of treeview.
Expected results:
All of horizontal tree to appear, either by making the window wider by default
and/or truncating the length of language name strings if necessary.
Additional info:
Dhivehi name entry is very wide.

+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #466657 +++
Description of problem:
key input too faster and too much messes up IBus.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
ibus-0.1.1.20081006-3.fc10
Steps to Reproduce:
1.input something too much and too faster
2.
3.
Actual results:
discarding the key event or return the same key event regardless of what
pressing/releasing the key.
Expected results:
should works expectedly.
Additional info:
Technically it happens when multiple XIM_FORWARD_EVENT is added to the property
when the key event is delivered faster than processing it in IBus. and when
it's there more than 4 in the property, it results the same output regardless
of what you are pressing/releasing the key. otherwise the key event is
discarded.
Why it returns the same key event when the property has something more than 4,
IMdkit is getting the value from the property wrongly. a quote from man page:
int XGetWindowProperty(Display *display, Window w, Atom property, long
long_offset, long long_length, Bool delete, Atom reg_type, Atom
*actual_type_return, int *actual_format_return, unsigned long
*nitems_return, unsigned long *bytes_after_return, unsigned char
**prop_return);
...
long_length
Specifies the length in 32-bit multiples of the data to be
retrieved.
and XGetWindowProperty won't delete the property value even if "delete" is
True, when there are still unread data.
To do the right thing, read the data with the proper length to not discard the
event. and if there are still the unread data in the property, read next data
with "long_offset".

test code for discarding the key event issue
% gcc scim_discarding.c `pkg-config --cflags --libs gtk+-2.0 gio-2.0`
% GTK_IM_MODULE=xim XMODIFIERS=@im=SCIM ./a.out
After pressing the button, "ab" should be put on the entry. otherwise SCIM may
be discarding the forward event.

test code for output the same result regardless of the key
% gcc scim_repeat.c `pkg-config --cflags --libs gtk+-2.0 gio-2.0`
% GTK_IM_MODULE=xim XMODIFIERS=@im=SCIM ./a.out
After pressing the button, "abc" should be put to the entry box. but actual
result is "aaaaaa". this testing code is sending KeyPress and KeyRelease events
for "a", "b" and "c". and usually GTK+ and other toolkits doesn't take any
actions for KeyRelease event. thus, this means SCIM sends back the forward
event for "a" with KeyPress 6 times.

Here is the packet dump from libgxim:
D[ 1223025108.607584]:[transport/summary] 0x1400009 <- opcode:

This means:

2 unused
n LISTofXICATTRIBUTE
XICATTRIBUTE is defined as:
2 CARD16 attribute ID
2 n value length
n value
p unused, p = Pad(n)
So:
attribute ID CARD16 0xcf
value length n 0
There are 2 bad packets here. one is, the value length is 0. on this session,
attribute ID 0xcf means filterEvents, which the value type is CARD32. so the
value length has to be 4. and another one is, the byte length of ic-attribute
is wrong.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
ibus-0.1.1.20081001-1.fc10.

+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #467016 +++
Description of problem:
gtk2-2.14.5-2.fc10, now in testing, breaks entry of characters with dead key
combinations in gnome apps. It works just fine with 2.14.4-3.fc10, as in F-10
GOLD. Instead of the expected characters, you get nothing. It still works on
non-gtk2 apps such as GNU Emacs, xterm, and konsole, in the same gnome session.
I verified that it's specific to gtk2 by booting up rawhide (where the problem
does not occur), sshing into the updated F-10 box, starting gedit there,
duplicating the problem, downgrading to the GOLD gtk2, starting gedit again,
and then having it all work again.
Here's some information snipped from the original bug report:
Having cs_CZ locale, I need dead-key working, because some of the letters in
the Czech keyboard layout are not on the keyboard directly (e.g., ňóť).
Unfortunately when entering these keys in the current Fedora Rawhide I get
ˇn´oˇt instead.
--- Additional comment from misek(a)tnet.cz on 2008-12-05 01:56:54 EDT ---
Too bad I'm hit by the same error, it appeared two days ago. Probably after
gnome update????? The system is Fedora 10 with the last
updates+updates-testing.
I'm adding list what was updated since the last known working state (I'm sure
it was working 2008-12-03 at 19:32:10).

Is anyone here using scim? - I don't think this is a scim but happen to be
proven otherwise...
Peter, do you have any light on this?

No, and there are no scim packages installed on my machine.

Downgrading gtk2 and gtk2-devel to 2.14.4-3.fc10 restored dead keys to me. I'm
going to clone this bug for gtk2.

Just do it as fa_IR locale does it. It's the correct way:
- define the digits usiing outdigits
- provide an input mapping using the new map "to_inpunct"
- provide additional information like thousands separators and decimal points
using the "to_outpunct" map
Why that you'll automatically get support for input and output of the
additional number format.
