The Liberation fonts are missing the Greek Polytonic characters (Greek Extended
Unicode group).
In practical terms, the Greek Extended Unicode group is made of the Greek
characters with a variety of accents (they are precomposed characters).
This report is to track the process of adding support.

Summary: iBus does not honor layout options (e.g. cz(qwerty))

Summary: iBus does not honor layout options (e.g. cz(qwerty))
Product: Fedora
Version: 16
Platform: Unspecified
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: medium
Priority: unspecified
Component: ibus
AssignedTo: tfujiwar(a)redhat.com
ReportedBy: kas(a)fi.muni.cz
QAContact: extras-qa(a)fedoraproject.org
CC: tfujiwar(a)redhat.com,
i18n-bugs(a)lists.fedoraproject.org,
shawn.p.huang(a)gmail.com
Classification: Fedora
Story Points: ---
Type: ---
Description of problem:
I want to use two keyboard layouts: English/US, and Czech(qwerty).
When I set up iBus to use these two layouts, it apparently does not honor the
"(qwerty)" option of the cz layout, and uses the default of "qwertz", which is
pretty annoying when I frequently switch betwen US and CZ layouts.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
ibus-1.4.0-11.fc16.x86_64
ibus-gtk2-1.4.0-11.fc16.x86_64
ibus-libs-1.4.0-11.fc16.x86_64
ibus-gtk3-1.4.0-11.fc16.x86_64
ibus-anthy-1.2.6-3.fc16.x86_64
How reproducible:
100 %
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run an XFCE4 session
2. Choose "Use iBus (recommended)" in (main menu)->Settings->Input Method
Selector, then click on the "Preferences..." next to iBus.
3. In ibus-setup window, switch to the Advanced tab, enable "Use system
keyboard layout" checkbox, and then click to the button near the "System
Keyboard Layout:" label.
4. In the "Keyboard layout" pop-up, add English(US) as a primary layout,
"Czech(qwerty) as a secondary layout, and in the "Options..." pop-up, enable
the "Key(s) to change layout" -> "Both shift keys together" checkbox.
5. Restart iBus, e.g. from the panel applet menu.
6. Open the Terminal, press both shift keys, and press the topmost letter keys
(labeled, q,w,e,r,t,y on the En/US keyboard).
7. press both shift keys again to get back to the English layout, and run
"setxkbmap -print"
Actual results:
6. Letters q,w,e,r,t,z are displayed (note the "z" instead of "y")
7. $ setxkbmap -print
xkb_keymap {
xkb_keycodes { include "evdev+aliases(qwerty)" };
xkb_types { include "complete" };
xkb_compat { include "complete+ledscroll(group_lock)" };
xkb_symbols { include "pc+us+cz:2+inet(evdev)+group(shifts_toggle)" };
xkb_geometry { include "pc(pc104)" };
};
Expected results:
6. Letters q,w,e,r,t,y should be displayed for cz(qwerty) layout
7. the "xkb_symbols" line in "setxkbmap -print" should be as follows:
xkb_symbols { include
"pc+us+cz(qwerty):2+inet(evdev)+group(shifts_toggle)+group(shifts_toggle)" };
Additional info:
I want to use iBus because I occasionally need also Japanese input (with Anthy
engine).
I don't think it is XFCE4 specific, but I currently don't have GNOME3 installed
in order to verify this.
Using plain setxkbmap, the following is the set up I want iBus to use:
setxkbmap 'us,cz(qwerty)' -option \
grp_mode:switch,grp:shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll

the test.Rnw file mentioned
Description of problem:
R has a way of generating pdf plots with Chinese annotations via cairo. The
plot titles are in sans:style=Bold, I believe. In F17 WenQuanYi Zen Hei is
subsetted and embedded as truetype. But in F18, an unknown bitmap is embedded
as CairoFont-?-? .
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
fontconfig-2.10.2-1.fc18.x86_64
cairo-1.12.8-1.fc18.x86_64
freetype-2.4.10-2.fc18.x86_64
How reproducible:
Always.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. run "R --vanilla CMD Sweave test.Rnw" (test.Rnw will be attached)
2. look at the test-002.pdf generated.
3.
Actual results:
Uneven boldening title
Expected results:
even boldening of the title
Additional info:
You need to run R under R to do this ; xvfb-run could be used for headless
system.

Description of problem:
As an example, please see this PDF:
http://www.ualberta.ca/~ygu/publications/christian_gji.pdf
It uses several serif fonts that are not embedded:
TimesNewRomanPS
TimesNewRomanPS-Italic
TimesNewRomanPS-Bold
TimesNewRomanPS-BoldItalic
TimesNRMT-SemiBold
When I view it in Firefox's pdf.js, the title and headings are serif, but when
I view it in evince, the title and headings are sans-serif. I know pdf.js is
not a perfect renderer, but at least it picks the right font.
I filed this report under fontconfig because it is returning the wrong font:
$ fc-match TimesNewRomanPS
DejaVuSans.ttf: "DejaVu Sans" "Book"
$ fc-match TimesNewRomanPS-Italic
DejaVuSans.ttf: "DejaVu Sans" "Book"
$ fc-match TimesNewRomanPS-Bold
DejaVuSans.ttf: "DejaVu Sans" "Book"
$ fc-match TimesNewRomanPS-BoldItalic
DejaVuSans.ttf: "DejaVu Sans" "Book"
$ fc-match TimesNRMT-SemiBold
DejaVuSans.ttf: "DejaVu Sans" "Book"
Using similar fonts nets the correct result:
$ fc-match TimesNewRoman
LiberationSerif-Regular.ttf: "Liberation Serif" "Regular"
$ fc-match Times
n021003l.pfb: "Nimbus Roman No9 L" "Regular"
I am not sure of the difference here, but at least the results are serif.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
fontconfig-2.10.2-2.fc18.x86_64
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Download above PDF.
2. Open in Firefox's pdf.js
3. Open in evince
Actual results:
Differing fonts for title and headings.
Expected results:
Same fonts for title and headings.

Description of problem:
After enabling ibus and type some thing on an application, the ibus use same
input method for other applications as well.
For example, if i type in Sinhala on LibreOffice (using ibus-sayura),
gnome-terminal, firefox, etc every other application use ibus-sayura instead of
en_US.
in previous versions we had that flexibility of using different IMs for
different applications at once.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install ibus-sayura on Fedora 17
2. Enable ibus-sayura
3. Open Firefox and type using ibus-sayura
4. Now open gnome-terminal and type some thing
Actual results:
sinhala characters will type on gnome-terminal
Expected results:
As you did not select ibus-sayura for Gnome-terminal application, it should
type in English
Additional info:
Very negative feedback from the local community and it affect for the Fedora as
most of end users not aware this issue came from the upstream.
Personal Comment:
I believe that upstream developer(s) should work on some other project instead
sending a crappy application. OR some one should fork the ibus and start
working on it for a target of making a better product for end users. The
product features should be improved instead of reduce.

Description of problem:
F-15 LXDE, en_US, keyboard JP. I Japanese-Anthy, with the default shortcuts, to
input Japanese.
Anthy on-off: Ctrl+J
Circle input method: Ctrl+, (Hiragana, Katakana, Romaji)
There are 2 things that don't work as long as I use Japanese-Anthy
1:
I cannot enter Macron letters when I type Romaji. Example: "Tookyoo" is
"Tōkyō". I use "Shift+Control+u 014D": it works with default input, it works
with ibus French-Canadian, but it does not work with Japanes-Anthy set to
English (_A) or set to "off".
2:
Sylpheed is the default email client on Fedora LXDE.
As long as the input method is set to Anthy, I cannot enter the email of a
contact in the "To" "Cc" or "BBc" fields.
Reproduce:
1. Anthy-ibus (either set to off, either set to _A - to type English)
2. In Sylpheed Ctrl+ (Open new message)
3. "To" field: only a single letter can be entered.
Additional info:
I would like to leave my input set to Japanse-Anthy in permanence but
currently, I cannot input Romaji letters with Maccrons, and I cannot send
emails to my contacts unless I turn input off (Ctrl+Space) or set the ibus to
another input than Japanese.

This problem persists in rdesktop.x86_64 1.7.0-2.fc17 :(
I tried patch above but it doesn't work well for me - czech specific keys are
duplicated - e.g. pressing key 5 (in en-us layout) gives řř not ř. Maybe I used
it by wrong way (I substituted /usr/share/rdesktop/keymaps/cs by this patch)
I found out this version of keymap -
https://www.abclinuxu.cz/poradna/linux/show/181220#10 and I know about only
one problem (AltGr+v should generate @ but do nothing), nevertheless it's much,
much better then current state).
Btw - FreeRDP works well outofbox..
--- Additional comment from Fedora End Of Life on 2013-01-16 12:30:00 EST ---
This message is a reminder that Fedora 16 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 16. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '16'.
Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 16's end of life.
Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 16 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" and open it against that version of Fedora.
Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.
The process we are following is described here:

I'm packaging a software needs its latest version.
As far as I can see there are only 1.0 version in the repo.
And this package supports python3, but I cannot find a package named

So please update the spec.

# cd /usr/share/texmf/fonts/map/dvips/updmap/
# updmap-sys --enable Map culmus.map
Note: the updmap-sys command has to run from within the folder containing
culmus.map file, otherwise the fonts are not recognized as well.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
culmus-fonts: 0.121-4.fc18
texlive: 2:2012-16.20130205_r29034.fc18
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install a fresh FC18 system, update to latest.
2. Install culmus-fonts (with all supported fonts), lyx and necessary texlive
packages to get working with tex and Hebrew support.
3. Try to generate a pdf (or dvi/ps) file from a tex file with Hebrew langauge
text.
Actual results:
Error, font rdavid is not fount at 600.
The error comes from mktexpk command which tries to access these font files.
Expected results:
Should simply create the the df file with correct layout and text.

Support for the ARM 64 bit CPU architecture (aarch64) was introduced in
autoconf 2.69. scim-chewing appears to use an earlier version of
autoconf, preventing its being built. This can be fixed in of three ways (In
order of preference):
1. Work with upstream to migrate the package to autoconf 2.69.
2. Rerun autoconf or autoreconf in %prep or %build prior to running
configure.
3. Apply the patch at
http://ausil.fedorapeople.org/aarch64/scim-chewing/scim-chewing-aarch64.pat…
which updates config.guess and config.sub to recognize aarch64.

Summary: ibus-table key input limitation makes it hard to input
Traditional Chinese with Quick and Cangjie
Regression: ---
Story Points: ---
Classification: Fedora
OS: Unspecified
Reporter: petersen(a)redhat.com
Type: Bug
Documentation: ---
Hardware: Unspecified
Mount Type: ---
Status: NEW
Component: ibus-table
Product: Fedora
This was originally brought up by Mathieu Bridon and other Hong Kong Fedora
users. The text below is adopted from his mail.
Here's a proposal to fix IBus Table for Hong Kong users.
Both Cangjie and Quick can be used to type Simplified and Traditional
Chinese, however, given their design, there isn't any combination of keys that
would conflict between those languages. In other words, any given
combination of character can only lead to results in one of those
languages, never more than one.
Given all that, it would make sense to simply remove altogether the IBus
filter for the Cangjie and Quick input methods in IBus.
Let's take an example.
In Cangjie, the combination "rji" can only return results in Traditional
Chinese. That means if a user types this combination of keys, he is
expecting results in Traditional Chinese because that's the language
he/she wants to type.
But with the current IBus filter, if the filter is set to only let
Simplified Chinese characters pass, he/she would not get any results.
In the same way, the combination "yri" can only return results in
Simplified Chinese, and the combination "fji" can only return results in
Japanese.
[ed: I have never heard of people using ibus-table for Japanese input]
This is by design of those two input methods: they were designed to
avoid conflicts.
As such, the filter just makes no sense for Cangjie and Quick, and it
should be simply removed for those two input methods.
Now, in the above I claimed that Cangjie and Quick were designed to have
absolutely zero conflicts, which was a little exaggeration.
In reality, conflicts happen. However, Cangjie and Quick were really
designed with the goal of minimizing conflicts, and they do it so well
that the actual rate of conflicts is 8.04% [1]. This is such a small
number, and it happens in so rare occasions, that it can just be
ignored.
It is also important to note that if 90% of Hong Kong people [2] use
Cangjie and Quick, many people (but much less than in HK) use them in
Taiwan, and almost no one use them in Mainland China or in Japan.
Out of those three, Hong Kong and Taiwan write Traditional Chinese,
Mainland Chinese write Simplified Chinese, and Japanese obviously write
Japanese. So those two input methods really are used almost exclusively
to write Traditional Chinese, which makes the aforementioned 8.04%
figure completely negligible.
As such, it doesn't change the argument at all: the current IBus filter
should be removed for the Cangjie and Quick input methods.
This is an absolute show-stopper for Hong Kong users at the moment
(well, not me, I can't write Chinese , and the simple act of removing
this filter for those two input methods would basically fix 90% of the
problems for 90% of the Hong Kong people.
Do you think you guys could fix this issue before the release of GNOME
3.6?
Of course, we'd be happy to provide a patch if you agree on the solution
and if you can provide some guidance.
[1] There's a scientific paper published on this, but it's unfortunately
only available in Chinese:
http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/倉頡輸入法
[2] Not just Linux users, actual **people**, as this is how everyone
learns to type at school in Hong Kong.

but with something farther down. Could you attach a screenshot(s) with

the primary sequence like:
shift + 1: ぬ
shift + 2: ふ

--- Comment #27 from Chris Smart <fedora(a)christophersmart.com> ---
I should add that I think it would be good to have support for more language
dialects/variations by default.
I realise in the present method this means we need translations, hence the hack
above.
In terms of Anaconda it could be a sublist under a parent language like
"English" that you click which goes to another list to refine choice (Android
has a similar setup in places).
Also the string in Anaconda that says something like "Please select a language
to use for installation" should probably be more explicit to say this will also
be the default language for the resulting system, or something.

If you want to hack up your own Anaconda with Australian English without
upstream support you can probably do that easily. Then simply install the
update inside the live environment prior to install (or if it's for a bunch of
people, add it to a local repo or something).
Tested this on Fedora 19:
yumdownloader --source anaconda
rpm -ivh anaconda*src.rpm
cd ~/rpmbuild/SPECS
patch -p0 < /tmp/anaconda-en_AU.patch #(attached)
rpmbuild -ba anaconda.spec #(preferably use mock)
