thx! got the files! (yeah I was looking for a single file which does

So I took a glance on what kind of info is within those files and i saw that strace is
outputting some of my aliases. So I disabled my .tcshrc and ssh started working! I kept
digging to understand which command is messing things up, and it turned out that it was
'clear' command within my .tcshrc file!
I did this kind of prompt hookup:
if (`uname` == 'Linux') then
set prompt="%{\e[34m%}%T
%{\e[33;1m%}%m%{\e[37m%}%{\e[31;1m%}[%{\e[37m%}${SHOW}%{\e[31;1m%}|%{\e[37m%}${SHOT}%{\e[31;1m%}]%{\e[37m%}:%{\e[36m%}%/%{\e[37m%}
> %{\e[0m%} "
alias cd 'cd \!*; set prompt="%{\e[34m%}%T
%{\e[33;1m%}%m%{\e[37m%}%{\e[31;1m%}[%{\e[37m%}${SHOW}%{\e[31;1m%}|%{\e[37m%}${SHOT}%{\e[31;1m%}]%{\e[37m%}:%{\e[36m%}%/%{\e[37m%}
> %{\e[0m%} "'
alias precmd 'echo -n "\033]0;[ ${SHOW} | ${SHOT} ]\a"'
endif # if Linux
clear
which ends with 'clear' command. To be hones don't remember why i added it.
Anyway if i disable nothing else but just that single 'clear' command - I can ssh
without issues!
Why that would be the case? what is the connection of clear command and ssh not working
via 'ProxyCommand' here ?
I can reproduce this. The ProxyCommand command "is executed using the
user's shell ‘exec’ directive to avoid a lingering shell process" (man
ssh_config) and it looks tcsh processes the .tcshrc file at this step.
I assume, since the ProxyCommand "should read from its standard input
and write to its standard output" (man ssh_config) the control sequences
send by the clear command somehow break the communication between the
ProxyCommand and ssh. For more details I'd recommend to check with
OpenSSH upstream.
In the meantime, if you want to keep the clear in .tcshrc, you should
protect the command so that it is only executed for interactive shells.
HTH
