What I see if I uninstall sendmail (or any other MTA) is:

When I use -s as an option for crond, no messages are sent to syslog. Imho
it is correct behaviour because I'd like to warn users who wish to use
email, that they don't have any MTA installed. Do you see different
messages?
Correct. I don't know where I sleeping or drunk when I thought short
cutting the way I did would work. It seems to get rid of the message a
new switch is needed, which will make crond to suppress mailing. The
switch might be good for also them who never read cron mails. I have
seen plenty of such installations. Please discard the first patch, I
will come up with something more suitable before Monday.
