Agreed. RPM does this for us, why do it twice?
Ian
I believe there is a desire to have aeolus-configure handle the entire
installation process. Users would install the aeolus-configure rpm, make
any configuration changes to suit their environment, run
aeolus-configure, and they would be up and ready to fly.
There are also plans to support distributing aeolus components onto
multiple servers. In this case we wouldn't want to have aeolus-all
installed on all the servers, only the components that are needed on a
particular server. Letting puppet install the packages would help us
move on that route.
I agree the figuring out dependency problems is a pain, but we'll need
to work through that pain in order to distribute components. Switching
back to the old behavior is as simple as changing the package_provider
value in default_configure from "yum" to "rpm". So I would suggest
running with this for now and we can quickly revert it if it becomes a
huge problem. Plus you can always install aeolus-all first and configure
would behave as it does today.
