it looks like I suffer the same issue -- when trying to send message
from Claws via GMail's SMTP, it fails, but gmail webinterface shows
about 10 of them. However, the message itself never gets send,
I believe (I don't see any duplicate messages in the xfce list). Using
local SMTP server seems to work fine...
Anyone else having similar issues?

Hi, there are two issues there.
One is the message not being sent. IDK if it's related but I have two
Gmail accounts set-up and today I was getting messages that it
couldn't login when fetching the mails (it would fetch for one account
and couldn't login for the other and vice-versa). So maybe it's having
some issues.
The other issue is that when we write from Claws, say, "Hello, how are
you?", in Gmail there's a message for "Hello", then another with
"Hello, ho", then another with "Hello, how are y" etc.
Right now I'm using the web interface because I had forgotten about
this issue and it's something I think that should be solved in Claws.
So this must be reported in their mailing list or bugzilla but if the
devs don't use Gmail then I don't know the outcome.
I just installed Thunderbird, which I dislike in the sense it's quite
bloated and not very well designed interface wise - which made me once
delete my whole inbox - but IIRC it doesn't have that issue when
composing messages for Gmail. So I'll try it again and maybe settle
with it.
