Greetings.
I have put together a first cut of a Xfce 4.10 feature for Fedora 18:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/Xfce-4.10
edits, comments, additions welcome there.
Also, I am going to look at starting to land 4.10 in rawhide soon, and hopefully after that can look at f17/f16 side repos for it for those that want to try it out.
We should see if we want to change any other plans for f18. I would _really_ like to switch away from gdm if possible...
kevin
ok. I have landed 4.10pre1 packages in rawhide, so they should be in tomorrow's compose.
I'm sure there's going to be some plugins that break, I will work on fixing them as I am able.
I also have a f17 repo with the same packages available:
http://repos.fedorapeople.org/repos/kevin/xfce-4.10/
I'll likely look at f16 for pre2 based on how things shake out for pre1, but if someone wants to go build everything for me, feel free. ;)
Note that I have only slightly tested the above repo, so do let me know if/when it breaks things. I'll try and keep the f17 repo up to date with fixes in rawhide if possible.

Yeah, I need to rebuild all the plugins for f17.
I didn't have time last night. ;( Will see about cleaning things up more today as time permits.

ok. I have all the rebuilt plugins now in that side repo... and I am running 4.10pre1 here on my laptop. So far, very smooth. I did get a Terminal crash, but I couldn't duplicate it. ;(
The only outstanding package we need to fix now that I know of is xfburn. There's some not yet commited patched in bugzilla upstream to port it to GIO that might get it working again.
In the mean time if you want to test, use rawhide, or f17 with my side repo.
Enjoy.

I _really_ agree with you.
I saw there was a work in progress with Robert A (the main LightDM developer), how did it evelve?
I made some progress on packaging LightDM at our Hackfest in Brno, but I am not yet fully satisfied.

I've installed Xfce 4.10pre1 from your repo and found a small bug: the menu entry for mimetype editor has no icon.

Looks like something went wrong because at least thunar and the Xfce plugins can't be updated as you can see in the attached file.

The attached output is useless, you skipped the important parts.
And why not use "--skip-broken"?

I've used --skip-broken already to install the updates who don't have dependecy problems.
And for the records the complete yum output:

I have the latest Thunar and Orage here. But I removed
xfce4-time-out-plugin before I updated.
Check if you have some other plugin that still wants an older library and if so, remove it.

Yeah, I need to fix that plugin, and remmina.
Will rebuild them both for my f17 xfce410 repo soon.
Sorry for any trouble.

Orange, Thunar and the plugin-packages are still broken. Any progress?
I do know about xfce4-time-out-plugin and remmina...
Whats broken with orage and Thunar? Can you provide full yum output?
I'm rebuilding with new plugins, and should update late tonight or tomorrow.

Sorry, that was my fault. It was only the timeout-plugin how was blocking the update but yum's output is not very clear in those situations :-(

Hi Christoph. I don't know why, but --skip-broken wouldn't let the Xfce upgrade. Maybe because if one panel plugin isn't updated for the latest xfce-panel then the panel itself and all the rest that depend on it are held back.

This output is very different from the first one. ANd please provide the *complete* output including the command you ran and in English ("LANG=C yum update --skip-broken"). TIA!

Would you be willing to file a bug upstream on xfce4-settings ?

While all other issues are fixed this is the only remaining one. xfburn does not work with Xfce 4.10. Currently there is other solution but uninstalling it.

xfburn-0.4.3 needs a one-liner patch (see below) for a missing include to get it built on rawhide, I'd assume the same would allow it to build on f17 as well as they both appear to be on the same glib version.
Whether that's sufficient to make it *work* is a whole another question though...

Yeah, this means I need to make a newer im-chooser available in my repo. ;(
Will do that as I build 4.10 final. In the mean time remove im-chooser-xfce or rebuild im-chooser locally against newer libxfce4util.

Just another short question: Is it a bug or a feature that I get logged in automaticly after loging out from Xfce?
Can you please provide more info on this? What login manager? Live media or installed system? Do you have a password set up for the user?
It's an installed System upgraded from Fedora 16 via preupgrade. Loginmanager is lxdm which is configured for autologin my user and everytime I log out from Xfce 4.10 I get logged back in imidiately.

Heiko

So you configured autologin and you are surprised you get logged in automatically? Wow! ;)
This is indeed a feature. If you want, you can configure a delay in lxdm.conf next to the autologin.
Kind regards, Christoph

On fedora 16 I was able i.e. to choose another account after loging out but now for me "Log out" is just a "Restart session"

Some users prefer enabled auto-login, some not. How can this be decided for a default configuration of a spin that affects all users? Difficult.
