I see you've identified the problem as a non-existant LVG. As you say,
we need to figure out where the heck the Xen guest is getting the idea
to look for the LVG. You said you looked at your guest's fstab...could
you post that for us?
However, if the reference to an LVG is not in the guest's GRUB (which
is the guest's config file) and not in the guest's disk image, then
maybe it's in the FC6 xen kernel or initrd? That doesn't make much
sense to me, but I do think that mixing an FC6 xen kernel with another
distro's image could be a problem.
You might want to try building a guest by copying your FC6 host's files.
This would provide consistency between your kernel and file system.
You would use dd to create an image, mkfs to give it an ext3 file system,
mount it, then copy and minorly edit the file system. Here's what I
used to do (after the above 3 steps):
# mkdir /mnt/{proc,sys,tmp,selinux}
# chmod 777 /mnt/tmp/
# cp -ax /{root,dev,var,etc,usr,bin,sbin,lib,home} /mnt
# cp /mnt/etc/modprobe.conf /mnt/etc/modprobe.conf.bak
# echo > /mnt/etc/modprobe.conf
# mv /mnt/etc/fstab /mnt/etc/fstab.bak
# vim /mnt/etc/fstab
/dev/sda1 / ext3 defaults 1 1
none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
none /sys sysfs defaults 0 0
/dev/sda2 swap swap defaults 0 0
I don't like the FC5 or FC6 Xen how-to's because they rely on Red Hat's
buggy tools to build guests. I used to use the old FC4 how to because
it showed more under the hood:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraXenQuickstartFC4
Here's some other old ones (remember I use an older version and avoid
using the rpms):

OK, i am trying to get ttylinux going, reading some posts and howto's
etc...but cant get the domU running. My ttylinux config looks like this:
kernel = "/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.19-1.2911.fc6xen"
ramdisk = "/boot/initrd-2.6.19-1.2911.fc6xen.img"
memory = 64
name = "ttylinux"
vif = ['']
dhcp = "dhcp"
disk = ['file:/opt/xen/ttylinux/ttylinux-xen,sda1,w']
root = "/dev/sda1 ro"
and when i run xm create -c ttylinux.cfg i get the following after all the
boot messages are done:
Xen virtual console successfully installed as xvc0

Graphical Display of VMS
by Sameer Gupta
hello Everyone
I m Sameer Gupta, a final yr computer engg student.
Actually i m doing a project in which i m using XEN to create virtual
machines.
But unfortunately i m not able to get graphical display of virtual machines
thus created.
I have heard of a VNC viewer, which does this for XEN.
Can anyone just brief me up with how to see graphical display of created VMs
using VNC
Will be really thankful to you for ur act of kindness.

1) Exceute the virt-install command as follows:
virt-install --name=F7test2_PV --file=/root/F7test2_PV.img \
--file-size=5 --ram=512 --paravirt \
--location=http://10.131.236.20/f7test2_x86 --nographics
The virtual disk is a regular file. This happens while anaconda
is formatting the filesystem or installing packages.
The same problem as this one exists in Bugzilla #229850.
It was commented that this problem was solved by the following patches
applied.
[Xen-devel] [Patch] blktap modular build fix
http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-changelog/2006-11/msg00464.html
When the kernel-xen package which applies the patch is provided?

xen guest creation
by Richard Henry
I'm having a problem creating a 2nd HVM SUSE guest on a Fedora 7 test 2
dom0.The 1st created just fine. (I've also created a Ubuntu guest just
fine I originally tried a fedora guest but no luck there)
I'm using virt-manager to control the process. As I try to create the
2nd guest the virt-manager window goes blank as well as the create
progress box. If I exit out of there and restart virt-manager the domain
shows running at about 50% CPU utilization. If I then go to the console
it shows booting from disk but no further progress. I've also tried
virt-install but no success. I'm sure it's something stupid I'm doing
but I haven't found anything similar on any list that I've looked at.
I'm running AMD 64x2 with SVM.
Thanks for any help.

Yes, initrd's can be a pain with Fedora.

You can also get more information to debug problems by launching with
a console (#xm create -c <domname>). This will show you the VM booting,
and you'll be able to see errors such as module failures due to a lack
of an initrd.

some initial trouble
by Michael Weiner
Xen readers -
Been trying to get xen working on FC6 for some time now, and i am not sure
what i am doing wrong - last time i played with xen it was v2 and didnt seem
to be this difficult to get working. ANyway, thought i would see if there
was a kind soul that could give me some guidance. I have a Fedora Core 6
server running the latest kernel 2.6.19-1.2911.6.5 and xen 3.0.3-6 and i
have a few dom's i grabbed from jailtime.org to play with (i.e. debian-3.1,
centos-4.4, etc). I am specifically trying to get the debian dom running,
here is the config:
kernel = "/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.19-1.2911.fc6xen"
memory = 128
name = "debian.3-1"
vif = ['']
dhcp = "dhcp"
disk = ['file:/xen/debian/debian.3-1.img,hda1,w',
'file:/xen/debian/debian.swap,hda2,w']
root = "/dev/hda1 ro"
pretty generic, and when i go to fire it up with 'xen create
debian-3.1.cfg-c' it starts up and runs for a few moments then dies,
leaving the following
in the log file:
Mar 19 11:06:19 monica kernel: xenbr0: port 3(vif11.0) entering disabled

Not really sure what the heck its complaining about. The server i am running
this on has a single network card with a single IP address so i really dont
have spare IPs i can throw at this thing. First thing, what am i doing
wrong? And does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to run this? Or
a good link that i can reference? Just seems v2 was easier to get this to
work without much magic, but i am getting old, and may not be remembering
all the details too well - its been awhile since i have played with it.
Thanks in advance

Re: [redhat-l] fedora core 6 xen not able to bring up X server:monitor blinks infinitely
by suyash jape
Thanks for your suggestions guys...
The problem was solved by :yum update xorg*
I think the *xorg*-x11-*server*-*Xorg i386 rpm *update solved the problem.
Looks like Fedora created the problem and solved it itself(through yum i
mean) :)
teaching me a lot of things in between :)
Thanks.
