fedora core 6 xen not able to bring up X server:monitor blinks infinitely
by suyash jape
My machine configuration is P4 1GB RAM, 40 GB HDD and COMPAQ SVGA monitor.
I have installed fedor core 6 xen in my machine
X server is not coming up with 2.6.18-1.2798.fc6xen kernel.
xorg.conf is using i810 driver with depth = 24
Fedora Core 6 is installed successfully in graphical mode
When booting, system switches automatically to run level 3.
When i try startx or X or system-config-display , the monitor goes blank and
monitor LED continues to blink infinitely
Few people have faced asimilar problem but i'm not able to find a solution
for it on the Net.
Any suggestion would be really appreciated...
Thanks....

Xen Kernel problems
by John Mizell
I have kernel kernel-xen-2.6.19-1.2911.6.5.fc6 installed on AMD 64 and
after the box is booted and running it locks up. I do not see this on
the same box with a non xen kernel. Has any one seen this or have a work
around?

Error in installation of fully virtualized xen domain
by Kiranjeet Kaur Beniwal
I am a student of seneca college in toronto.I am having problem in installing fully - virtualized xen domain. when I try to install it I get so many errors
e.g. CD device must exist!
if I give /dev/cdrom path the it says you can not use file name. Then I used the path
/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/Virtinst/Xenguest.py
This path removed that error but the again I got second error:
Unable to connect to graphical console; DISPLAY is not set. Please connect to localhost:5900
Domain installation still in progress. You can reconnect
to the console to complete the installation process.
I don not know what is going on. Anybody can help me

Thanks for your suggestions guys...
The problem was solved by :yum update xorg*
I think the *xorg*-x11-*server*-*Xorg i386 rpm *update solved the problem.
Looks like Fedora created the problem and solved it itself(through yum i
mean) :)
teaching me a lot of things in between :)
Thanks.
I have Intel 82865G Graphics card...(i810 in xorg.conf) ..The problem was
solved by
yum update xorg
Thanks.

2.6.19-1.2911.6.5 and tg3 failing?
by Paul Wouters
Hi guys,
I have a strange xen problem where the xen server is using the tg3 ethernet
driver. The dom0 can ping the guest, but the guest cannot ping the dom0.
tcpdump on the dom0 shows that the icmp arrives on its eth0, but it doesnt
send the icmp reply. Pinging the default gw in the physical network from
the guest works, and the guest has full connectivity to the world, with the
exception of the dom0.
There are no firewall rules in place.
I tried the following to no effect:
ethtool -K eth0 tso off
ethtool -K eth0 tx off
Does anyone have an idea? This is running xen-3.0.3-8.fc6 and
kernel-xen-2.6.19-1.2911.6.5.fc6 on guest and dom0.

FC6 Guest install Hangs - broadcom?
by Matt Mankins
Hi.
I have a fresh install of FC6 (2.6.19-1.2911.6.5.fc6xen) dom0 running
on 64bit install, unfortunately I can't seem to get any domU guests
(all same OS) to install, they hang after the "network setup" screen
of anaconda.
I've tried {virt-install,virt-manager (gui), xenguest-install (what I
used previously on fc5)}, using nfs mount of 64 bit install dvd fc6.
All seem to hang right after the network setup screen, when I enter
the network parameters manually (not dhcp). Here's a screen capture
of what it looks like:
http://fishinhand.com/tmp/fc6-hang.png
(notice the weird A at the top right).
--> Extra bits: I have three machines that all exhibit the same
behavior. 2 are Dell 1950s and one is an 1850. All are 2 dual
cores. 16GB Ram. File backed for now. I've applied the Broadcom
network fix to make the network behave ( http://mywiki.ncsa.uiuc.edu/
wiki/Dell_PE1950_NIC_Firmware_Workaround ), only I guess it's not.
Does any of this ring a bell? Did I not completely fix the
broadcom? I'm not sure what to look at... the log files seem clean,
but I can post if that would help.

I finally got back to this project, and tried to use the yum command above
to upgrade the guest image. It did not work. I just got a message saying
"No Packages marked for Update/Obsoletion".
I wonder if it's really checking the guest's configuration or the host
system.
Anyone have any more ideas?

Live VM Migration of XEN Failed
by taoj2@cs.rpi.edu
Hi, Dear All
I was trying to do the live VM migration with Xen. There are two hosts,
host1 and host2. Both hosts has Fedora Core 6 as the host operating
system. And I created a XEN guest, XEN1, at host1. Now I want to migrate
XEN1 from host1 to host2 using the live migration feature of XEN.
First, I edited /etc/xen/xend-config.sxp on host1 and hosts to:
#(xend-unix-server yes)
(xend-relocation-server yes)
(xend-relocation-port 8002)
(xend-relocation-address '')
(xend-relocation-hosts-allow '')
#(xend-relocation-hosts-allow '^localhost$ ^localhost\\.localdomain$')
Then, I restart xend on host1 and host2:
service xend restart
Then, I exported the /var/lib/xen/images on host1 via NFS and mount this
directory to host2. And the mount is successful.
After that I start XEN guest on host1:
xm create xen1
However, I found that the Virtual Machine Manager of FC6 didn't work. It
said:
Unable to open to a connection to the Xen hypervisor/daemon.
Verify that:
-A Xen host kernel was booted
-The Xen service has been started.
But when I use "xm list", Domain-0 is running, and xen1 is blocked.
Finally, I run "xm migrate -l xen1 host2", it failed, the error message is:
Error: /usr/lib64/xen/bin/xc_save 4 1 0 0 1 failed.
Anybody know how to slove this problem? Thanks a lot.
Regards,
angel
