Tips on retroactively patching a patch, if your local stream is
several commits ahead, would be most welcome.

Couldn't you do something involving git rebase -i? Something like git
rebase -i <first patch commit>^ and then edit the relevant commits. It
would update all of your commit times but as long as none of them had
been pushed it shouldn't affect anyone.
