I'm not sure if just 1 place would be desirable. The avail icons in the left
nav tree are useful because they should different avail statuses across the
platform (and it'd be ideal if the parents showed some kind of
"consolidated"
avail of children, similarly to how Eclipse or Intellij show packages with
problem classes, but I digress).
I agree that this concept is missing. There’s no way to look at the parent resource and
understand the state of its children without scanning the entire tree on the left. My
suspicion is that a simple (e.g. red/yellow/green) status of a parent icon would be
sufficient to indicate there is or is not an issue with children. Users would drill into
children to see details.
Regardless, that’s a bigger effort and I suspect outside the short term scope.
The big green check on the detail page is very "re-assuring" and I think it
would be wrong to get rid of that, because people would then have to "hunt"
for the availability in the crowded inventory tree.
IMHO, the only avail that could easily go away are the badges on the big 24x24
icons on the detail page.
I think that’s a good idea for now. The new theme includes icons to represent ‘type’.
Rather than the badge using the ‘UP’ icon it can use the type.
