a way to speed up builds
by Ian Springer
Fyi, a trick I've been doing recently to speed up builds is adding the
following line to the top of my settings.xml:
<offline/>
This is the equivalent of always passing -o/--offline to mvn. Of
course, you'll need to have done at least one full container build
without this first to populate your local repo.

Modeshape as our backend data storage (again)?
by Lukas Krejci
This idea has circulated around a couple of times already but I just found
this article about the plans for Modeshape 3 rather interesting.
http://community.jboss.org/message/634352#634352
We now have 3 ways of storing binary data inside RHQ (each having different
usages, I know, but still), one of them even having a pluggable architecture.
Drift might be slightly different because of the quite special things it has
to do with the data, but still I think bundles and especially content could be
greatly enhanced (and in the end maybe even simplified) by usage of a jcr repo
for storing the data without too much hassle on our side (well, that's a
strong statement based entirely just on "feelings", no hard evidence, so I
know I'm a bit bold in claiming that ;) ).
Nevertheless, I wanted to share the above link just to bring this debate back
into the picture.

Regex Bug in Oracle/Database plugin (4.3.0-SNAPSHOT)

This is on Java 6, which I suppose treats \\{xxx\\} as special.

I think the code should be:
public static String formatMessage(String message, String key) {
message = message.replaceAll("{key}", key);
return message;
}

comments on default metric collections
by John Mazzitelli
I plan on merging the metric-tweaks branch into master. I know we went
to-and-fro on this but before I commit to master, I want to bring this
up again to have one final discussion around it because the last time it
ended up being something like "hold off on this until we think about it
some more" :}
The issue: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=741331
We have lots of metrics enabled that no one really cares about, and many
collect far to frequently by default.
So here are the metrics that will be turned on by default - all others
will be disabled out of box when you first install:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=741331#c4
Defaults are now on the order of 10 or 20 minutes, as opposed to 1 or 5
minutes.
These are only the out-of-box defaults for new installations.
Obviously, users can change these defaults (via metric "templates") and
can change individual resource values (via metric "schedules").

[Fwd: Password/SSH Key Change Reminder]
by John Mazzitelli
This is a reminder to do this (see below). November 30 will come up fast
and if you do not do this, come December 1 you will not be able to
commit to the git repo (in fact, you won't be able to commit to ANY
fedorahosted git repo, not just RHQ's repo).

Greetings.
Recently we announced at
http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/announce/2011-October/003005.html
