Bundle deploy question
by Heiko W.Rupp
If a bundle was deployed to a group G consisting of platforms A & B,
how do we ensure it gets deployed to machine C when C joins the group G?

RHQ Documentation Updates
by Stefan Negrea
Hello All,
I updated all the screenshots from RHQ user documentation wiki (http://www.rhq-project.org/display/JOPR2/Home) with news ones taken from RHQ 4.0. In some cases, I had to slightly update the text for the screenshot because of changes in UI and/or functionality. If by any chance I missed something, please let me know and I will be more than glad to update the page/s.
The new RHQ UI is eye-candy :)
Thank you,
Stefan Negrea

RHQ 4.0.2.GA tag?
by Heiko W.Rupp
Hi,
just saw a RHQ 4.0.2. GA tag in git
http://git.fedorahosted.org/git/?p=rhq/rhq.git;a=summary
What is this about? - I think that may be confusing to people.

upgrade hibernate?
by John Mazzitelli
Now that we have a bit more breathing space before next release, I would
like to ask if people think we should upgrade our Hibernate library now?
Right now, we are using a relatively old Hibernate version - and an
unreleased, custom patched one at that (3.2+)
If we upgrade Hibernate now, it would give us a good amount of time from
now to release to see if we hit any issues.

JMX notifications from MC4J/EMS
by Elias Ross
Hi.
So I'm considering adding support for JMX notifications in RHQ.
>From what I can tell, the steps are basically:
1. For each EmsBean.getNotifications() (returns set of interface
EmsNotification).
2. Determine if we should listen or not to its notifications (through
configuration? always?) Not sure how to indicate in XML this detail.
3. Pass MBeanResourceComponent (implementing EmsNotificationListener)
to EmsNotification.addNotificationListener
4. Call EmsNotification.startListening ...
5. At stop time, ensure EmsNotification.stopListening is called
6. As for how the events get to RHQ, essentially it involves calling
org.rhq.core.pluginapi.event.EventContext.publishEvent( ... )
And a reference to EventContext is obtained through initialization.
One problem I see is the DNotification instance currently captures
every event in member variable "events", which looks like a big memory
leak waiting to happen... This is the only times "events" is
referenced in the class.
public class DNotification implements EmsNotification {
protected List<EmsNotificationEvent> events = new
ArrayList<EmsNotificationEvent>();
public List<EmsNotificationEvent> getEvents() {
return Collections.unmodifiableList(events);
}
protected void fireNotifications(EmsNotificationEvent event) {
events.add(event);
...
}
So I think what needs to happen is modification of this class. If
there are no listeners, then maybe capture the event (still sounds
bad); otherwise the event is passed on.

Need help understanding erroneous git commit
by spinder
Hi all,
Can anyone with more git experience help me understand what(if any) are the ramifications of the following commit message?
I was attempting to push 1 commit (42aa525be2f00efa7777) to the release-3.0.0 branch. I've since pushed correctly to release-3.0.0, but want to know if anything else needs to be done to clean this up properly?
https://fedorahosted.org/pipermail/rhq-commits/2011-May/005410.html
Before attempting to push local changes to the remote branch release-3.0.0, git status showed:
# On branch release-3.0.0
# Your branch is ahead of 'origin/release-3.0.0' by 1 commit.
The erroneous commit was caused by this command:
git push origin release-3.0.0:origin/release-3.0.0
Counting objects: 32, done.
Delta compression using 4 threads.
Compressing objects: 100% (15/15), done.
Writing objects: 100% (17/17), 2.84 KiB, done.
Total 17 (delta 8), reused 0 (delta 0)
To ssh://spinder@git.fedorahosted.org/git/rhq/rhq.git
ef158c9..42aa525 release-3.0.0 -> origin/release-3.0.0
I'm confused by:
- how 14 commits were sent even though I was only ahead of the branch by 1 commit.
- what git tree was actually updated because release-3.0.0 does not show the erroneous message?
- if I erroneously created a new remote branch, I can't see it?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Cool, thanks
I've added that to http://rhq-project.org/display/RHQ/Design-REST , where Charles also has added some requirements
