Things I dont know how to do with plugins
by Bryan Kearney
Working through a plugin, there were a couple of things I did not know
how to do. Any pointers on best practices would be appreciated.
1) I would like to exposed operations based on the state (availability)
of the resource.
2) I would like to kick off discovery based on an operation being executed.
3) I would like to update availability based on an operation.
I assume some/all of this is supported.

I18N, message bundles and I18Nlog
by Heiko W.Rupp
Hi,
we just got a contribution of brazilian (protuguese) installer messages - which is in
.properties format, as "normal" java message bundles are.
We are using I18Nlog with the annotated Interface as input
@I18NMessages( { @I18NMessage(locale = "en", value = "Create a database/user if needed"),
@I18NMessage(locale = "de", value = "DB mit -benutzer anlegen, falls nötig") })
String CREATE_DATABASE_NOTE = "createDatabaseNote";
Which would require every contributor to add new translation to this file, which sounds more and more
impractical.
Also I've contacted transiflex.net that allows independent translators to translate stuff.
Transiflex will very probably offer .properties files soon (at the moment they only offer .po
files).
So I propose to move all message bundle .properties files out of the I18NInterface
into .properties files that reside in normal git ( one could leave the english ones and
recreate the base .properties file after changes of the interface ) so that it will be
easier for translators to add a new language or update existing files.

enabling events show up only on the hour
by Bala Nair
I have configured one of my agents to monitor the syslog and some of my
logs for events. The configuration seems to work ok, but the events
don't show up on the event page until the top of the hour the first time
through. After the first time they show up in a timely manner - it's
just that first time lag till the top of the hour. Is this a feature of
the agent and if so is there any way to change it?

Class pollution and the EJB spec
by Heiko W.Rupp
Hi,
I see the following the following pattern being used more and more in our code
@Stateless
public class MyBean implements MyBeanLocal {
...
}
@Local
public interface MyBeanLocal implements MyBeanRemote
{
public void foo();
...
}
@Remote
@Webservice
@SomethingElse
public interface MyBeanRemote
{
@WebMethod public void foo();
...
}
I am currently seeing the following issues with that: on jdk15, @Webservice, @SomethingElse need to be on the classpath of clients using MyBeanLocal for compilation.
Actually (but I have not found an example forbidding it), I am not sure if the pattern above is portable, as the spec does not talk about
the semantics of such inheritance of @WebService and @WebMethod (as opoosed to the inheritance of @TransactionAttribute)
So I think it would be better in the future not to use this above pattern - the IDE actually allows to easily pull up a method form
a session bean class into both interfaces if needed.

Re: [rhq] Branch 'gwt' - modules/enterprise
by John Mazzitelli
(forwarding to the dev mailing list, keeping the commit mailing list for
the git emails only)
First, realize that this component isn't used yet - I only committed
this to save the code in case we need something like this in the future
(this code was ripped out of the BundleInfoStep class which we wanted to
delete because it isn't used anymore; now that I saved the code I wanted
to save, we can delete that InfoStep class now).
That said, I "hide" it because we aren't sure if we want to ship
multiple bundle plugins yet - and if we only ship one (the Ant one) I
didn't want to dirty up the UI and possibly confuse the user with this
"bundle type" selection. When this is the case, it isn't true that this
UI element sometimes shows up and sometimes not - in fact, it will never
show up. Only if we ship multiple bundle plugins (or if they deploy
their own bundle plugins), will they be given this menu option and in
that case it will always show up and never be hidden. In any case, I'm
not against showing it disabled if there is only one bundle type in the
system if people like that better, I just thought it was cleaner and
didn't show more information than what the user really needs to know.
But in the end, this stuff isn't even used right now, so its a moot
conversation at this time :)
