The code doesn't have an explicit license in it, so I've emailed the
author to ask permission to include the code. I'll plead ignorance on
what existing library might already provides a CRC32 function: any

There is some MD5 code that pacemaker uses.
That produces a char[] though, so maybe not so helpful.
For now we can probably get away with a link and a statement to the
effect that it has no license and is therefore being treated as public
domain.
