Linux examined: Fedora 9
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi,
We have to review the complaints here and address them. If anyone wants
to take a closer look, please do.

"On the whole, Fedora is a solid Linux distribution that will probably
serve you well for desktop usage. Red Hat can rightly claim extensive
experience as a commercial Linux vendor; it practically invented the
market. Installing Fedora is a good way to ensure an extensive
repository of prebuilt software. The hardware support is right up there
with any other user-friendly distribution.
But my experiences with trying a multiboot install make me leery of
recommending it to anyone who wants to use it in a dual-boot
environment. The distribution may be robust, but the installer needs to
learn to play better with others. It's also a little too intimidating
for nongeek users, so if you're going to get any less-experienced
friends on Fedora, you might want to schedule an afternoon to help them
out."

Fedora Store and sources
by Jonathan Roberts
Hey all,
one thing I think we should definitely consider in creating a Fedora
Store and where we source our materials from. From my own perspective,
if we're going to run a store like this we can't get t-shirts, hats
etc and/or cotton that has been manufactured by companies who don't
pay a fair wage in awful working conditions. Maybe we should explore
fair trade suppliers?
Is fair trade popular in the US? It's certainly gaining traction here
in the UK and I'd be happy to work on this. I already have a few
possible connections that I'd be able to explore.
Best wishes,
Jon

Very happy that you guys are trying out the distribution. However, you
should discuss these topics on fedora-list, and not the lists intended
for discussion of infrastructure, marketing, and translation.
Thanks! :-)

Fedora Linux 9 Is Here
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi,
http://www.americandaily.com/article/22143
"As a side note, the Fedora Free Media Program is in need of donations
no matter now small to assist people that can't afford to pay for
purchasing a CD or DVD delivery of the OS.
I have scrounged up a total of $26.00 to donate, maybe you could add to
the pot? If 1000 people donated just $5.00 , the program would be
greatly expanded."

Printing the posters
by Robert M. Albrecht
Hi,
I wanted to print the posters from
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/MarketingCollateral
But the company can`t process the svg-graphic-files. I tried to produce
some pdfs, but they are always corrupted. I used printing to cups and
the Inkscape integrated pdf-export, both busted the files.
Does anyone have some printable files (in A1) ? PDFs with embedded
fonts, Postscript, ...

Fedora Store mockup
by Máirín Duffy
Hi,
I took a stab at a front page mockup for the Fedora store. I have some
ideas for the subpages too. I'm thinking basically the subpages will
show all the possible products and maybe list which external sites you
can get each in (for individual purchasing), and for bulk orders maybe
it would have downloadable printer-ready artwork with recommendations by
region of where to go with price estimates?

Fedora 9 and the road to KDE4
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi,
A KDE 4 review from me.
http://www.redhatmagazine.com/2008/05/14/fedora-9-and-the-road-to-kde4/
"KDE 4 shows exciting potential but still has a long way to go. Those
who remember the days of KDE or GNOME 2.0 won’t be disappointed at the
current state. Today’s new audience might have different expectations,
and it is unlikely the majority has the patience to deal with a major
rewrite like this one. Even the Linux kernel has moved towards
incremental progress over major rewrites in a development branch. The
KDE project has taken a big risk, hoping to jump-start innovation. I
hope they get it right. Along with the interesting acquisition of
Trolltech by Nokia, the future is exciting and uncertain… and that’s
just the way I like it."
