Desktop now uses Fedora 9
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi,
http://www.g-loaded.eu/2008/05/16/desktop-now-uses-fedora-9/
"What I would consider as the highlight of this release is PackageKit, a
program that is used by GNOME in order to stand between the user and the
various package managers, so users don’t have to worry about what
happens behind the scenes. Personally, I believe that approaching free
software’s “chaotic” development model in such a way is good for both
the end-users and the active contributors, as it makes their effort more
focused and coordinated. PackageKit also includes a command line interface."

Hats Off For Fedora 9
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi,
http://www.informationweek.com/blog/main/archives/2008/05/hats_off_for_fe...
"It's not about which window manager to use, or even the code itself,
since the vast majority of what's in any given Linux distribution is all
the same code. It's about the choices made by the folks who packaged
the distribution: how closed-source drivers are handled, how the distro
deals with the upstream, what they felt was worth keeping in a default
installation, and what could be left up to the user to install. The
distro choices are becoming more about this kind of aesthetics, and
Fedora feels like it has the best mix of these things for me."

Virtual FUDcon Proposal
by Markus McLaughlin
*Hello to everyone who cares about Fedora!!!*
I come to you with a proposal about how a "Virtual FUDcon" could be set up
on a web site...
When a REAL Convention is happening in a city, a virtual extension takes
place as well.
On my Linux Blog (http://linuxglobe.wordpress.com,) there is a example of
what I will
describe is shown, made in GIMP. A web site is set up with a live video
feed, archived
video links, a ticker for alerts, and IRC-style chat rooms called "booths."
Please consider
using this "Virtual Convention" concept for FUDcon 2009 or any other
Convention/Event!!!
*Sincerely,
Mark McLaughlin*

LINdependence 2008 - no Fedora?
by Valent Turkovic
Hi,
I heard about LINdependence 2008 on a podcast [1] and now lots of
distributions are jumping in to help out but there was no mention of
Fedora. Are there any Ambassadors that are willing to help in this
project? It has to be someone who is closer to the location (Felton,
California) of someone willing to travel a bit. If I get the travel
expenses I'll go :) But it is obviously better that someone local goes
there.
More info about this can be heard and read here:

Installation options
by Danishka Navin
Hi Guys,
Recently one of my friend demonstrated the New Ubuntu (8) Installation
feature for Windoz people, who wants to switch to GNU/Linux,
as most people scared of installing GNU/Linux on there Win Box as a dual
boot.
The Ubuntu installer was started from Windoz env, and after 1st reboot it
took the normal installation procedure.
But there is no grub, windoz manage it.
Still I didn't upgraded my F8 box with F9, so not sure F9 also available the
same feature.
Regards,
Danishka

Red Hat's Fedora 9 Linux Now Runs Off USB Keys
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi,
http://www.everythingusb.com/fedora-9-14701.html
"Creating a portable Linux desktop, according to Fedora project leader
Paul Frields, opens up new opportunities for "low-heat producing,
low-power consuming mobile devices..." that run off a comfortably on a
2GB USB drive. Another idea would be to install public kiosks in school
or Starbucks where users can boot off their own Linux OS with all the
familiar applications on a thumbdrive. Unfortunately, large footprint
apps like OpenOffice and multi-language support, are off limits to this
approach, but users can still combine small apps like AbitWord, email,
calender & browser without taking too much memory. "
