This error message is rather laconic, so I don’t understand the nature of the issue and why I would get a password error.
The issue looks very similar to https://pagure.io/freeipa/issue/7181. The workaround is described in the ticket, but the issue was fixed a while ago (in IPA 4.6.8) and I'm wondering which version you have? flo
