--- Comment #10 from Hans de Goede <hdegoede(a)redhat.com> ---
Nicolas,
The dejavu font packaging changes are IMHO a really unnecessary / gratuitous
change. The upstream files were not changed yet for "packaging" reasons and for
"packaging" reasons only the directories in which the fonts are stored were
stored causing a LOT, really really a LOT, of work for other packagers.
If this were a kernel level change Torvald's would be explaining to you how in
the kernel it is not allowed to go around and break other people's stuff (break
userspace) and you would likely be told to go and fix things ASAP.
I do not see how this is really different a change which you (or the font
packaging group) made is causing a lot of breakage left and right. Since you
broke it, *you *should also be the one to fix it.
At a minimum you should go over the above list, see which one use direct
file-paths to the fonts (usually that is done straight in the spec file) and go
and file bug against affected packages, so that we can track this and make sure
that we get everything fixed before Fedora 32 ships. I suggest that you make
all the bugs you file for this block this bug, so that we can use this bug as
tracking bug. FWIW I've already fixed xblast, sdljava-demo and widelands, but
that seems to be just the tip of the iceberg.
Also in the future please refrain from this kind of packaging changes for such
a core font as Dejavu. If upstream changes the filenames then that is something
which we will have to deal with, but this whole Fedora 32 change feels a lot
like changing things around purely for the sake of changing things around,
causing me and other packagers a lot of extra work and that makes me really
unhappy!
Regards,
Hans
