--- Comment #25 from Jonathan Billings <jsbillin(a)umich.edu> ---
(In reply to Adam Williamson from comment #15)
what is the actual purpose of this bug report, since this was an
intentional
upstream change whose effect was known and accepted? what does the reporter
expect to happen before the report is CLOSED?
Many others have replied with good advice. I had hoped that this would be
fixed before Fedora 31 was released. When I did a dnf system-upgrade from
Fedora 30, I had the ucs-miscfixed-fonts Fixed Semicondensed font for all my
GNOME Terminals, as well as Terminus for another Terminal profile. The upgrade
resulted in me having an unusable system until I downgraded pango, because
every terminal was filled with the unknown character rectangles. It was an bad
UI experience, but I figured, it's still the beta, it'll be fixed soon.
But due to a bunch of finger-pointing, we ended up with a release that'll break
anyone's environment if they like bitmap fonts.
I'm fine moving this to the font provider's tickets, since the upstream pango
maintainers intended this breakage (even if it was poorly announced)
